INVITATION TO CONGRESSWOMAN DONNA EDWARDS' COLLEGE AND CAREER FAIR

Dear Friend:

I am writing to invite you to attend my 3^rd Annual College and Career Fair, “Planning for Future Success:  Helping High School and Middle School Students Plan for Future Educational and Career Opportunities”.  The event will be held on Saturday, November 5^th, 2011 at the Silver Spring Civic Center located at 1 Veteran’s Plaza, in Silver Spring, Maryland from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Workshops on financial aid, maximizing in- and out-of-class opportunities, and identifying career options will start at 9:00 a.m.  The Fair will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

During the first workshop, “It’s Never too Early to Start Thinking about College”, students and parents will learn how planning classes and out-of-class experiences – service learning, internships, part-time jobs – can help prepare them for the college and/or career of their choice.

Experts on the panel “Tapping Known and Unknown Resources:  Funding Your Higher Education” will share information about how to find and complete applications for known and little-known financial assistance sources.

A third panel will include representatives from national and area businesses and government agencies who will share information about paths to careers – especially increasingly popular STEM careers.

Finally, participants will be able to use an air flight simulator with a navigation chart that will show students how air traffic is managed from a Controller's view. The Microsoft Worldwide Innovative Educator Winner will demonstrate and involve participants in robotics and game design. Participants will build and program robots, help create video games that address social issues, and learn about how these technologies help prepare students for 21st century careers.  The NASA Goddard Space Flight will have a special surprise!
