기도할 수 있는데 왜 걱정하십니까? (출17:8-13; 마16:19; 18:19,20)

 

· 성도들의 삶 가운데 나타나는 문제들은 그 이면에 영적인 문제들을 안고 있다. 그럼으로 표면적으로 보여지는 원인을 아무리 분석하고 대책을 세워도, 결국 영적 부분을 돌아보지 않으면 근본적으로 해결되지 않는다. 

· 이 땅에서의 삶을 살아가며 항상 이기는 삶을 살기 위해서는 영적 분별력을 가져야 한다. 성도가 된 우리에게 주님께서 어떤 은혜들을 허락하셨지, 그 은혜 가운데 우리는 어떤 승리적인 삶을 살 수 있는지를 분명히 알 때, 실제로 어떤 상황에도 밀리지 않고 승리하는 삶을 살 수 있다. 

 

1) 아말렉과의 전쟁에서의 승리는 모세의 기도에 달려있었다. 

· 아말렉과의 전쟁은 오늘날 성도들이 영원한 하나님의 나라를 향해 가는 가운데 어떤 영적 전쟁이 있을 것이며, 그 영적 전쟁들을 어떻게 승리하며 살아갈 수 있을 것인가를 보여주는 것이다.

· 이상한 점은 전쟁이 일어나면 가장 앞장서서 전장을 진두 지휘해야 할 모세가 여호수아에게는 아말렉과 싸울 만한 사람들을 뽑아 전쟁터로 나가라하고, 자신은 산 위에 올라간다.(9절)

· 놀라운 것은 전쟁의 승패가 산 밑에서 열심히 칼을 휘두르며 싸움을 하는 여호수아에게 달려있는 것이 아니라, 산 위에서 기도하고 있는 모세에게 달려 있었다는 것이다.(11절)

· 모세가 하나님의 지팡이를 가지고 산에 올라가겠다고 한 것은 하나님의 능력을 의지하겠다는 것이다. 모세가 가지고 간 지팡이는 이스라엘이 출애굽 할 때부터 많은 이적을 나타내었던 지팡이였기 때문이다.    *기드온의 용사들을 300명만 남기신 이유(삿7:2)

· 오늘날 우리의 삶에도 뭔가 될 법한데도 여전히 안되고 있는 이유가 바로 그런 이유다. 철저히 하나님이 하셨다는 고백을 받으시려는 것이다. 적당이 어려운 상태에서 해결 되면 그게 하나님이 하신 것이 아니고 우연이 된 것이라고 말하기 때문에 하나님은 철저히 하나님이 하신 것으로 되도록 몰고 가시는 것이다.     *소년 다윗이 골리앗을 상대할 때 한 말(삼상17:45)

  

2) 그리스도께서는 오늘날 성도들에게도 천국 열쇠를 주셨다.

· 예수님께서 주는 그리스도시라고 고백하는 베드로에게 천국 열쇠를 주셨다고 말한다.(마16:19) 구약 시대만 해도 천국 문을 열고 닫을 수 있는 특권이 몇 몇 성전 문지기들에게만 주어졌지만 오늘날 신약 시대에는 모든 성도들이 받게 되었다.   *'천국 열쇠' = ‘천국의 보화가 땅에 내려지게 하는 것’

· 하늘 문을 열고 닫는 열쇠가 바로 땅에 있는 교회와 성도들에게 주어졌음을 선언하는 것이다. 매고 푸시는 것은 하나님이 하시는 일이지만 하나님은 그것을 성도들의 기도를 통해서 하신다. 안타까운 것은 많은 성도들이 이 엄청난 특권을 잘 사용하지 않고 있거나 잘못 사용하고 있다는 것이다. 사용법을 잘 몰라서 잘못 사용을 해 놓고서는 잘 안된다고 금방 포기한다.

· 고수들은 많이 움직이지 않는다. 말도 많이 안한다. 정말 수를 아는 사람들은 여기 저기 다니기 보다는, 여기 저기 사람들에게 부탁하기 보다는, 필요한 때에 열쇠를 한번 씩만 돌려준다. 

· 기도에 열심을 내지 않고 있다면 그것은 영적인 게으름에 빠져 있든지, 세상의 욕심에 빠져 있든 지 둘 중에 하나이다. 예수님도 밤새 늦게까지 일하시고 다음 날 새벽에 습관을 좇아 한 적한 곳에 가셔서 기도하셨다.(막1:35) 피곤함이나 바쁘다는 핑계를 댈 수 없다. 

· 또 하나님의 말씀과 기도로 거룩해진다(딤전4:5)고 하신 하나님께서 우리의 삶을 기도할 시간조차 없을 정도로 바쁘게 이끌어가시는 않는다. 따라서 내가 기도할 시간도 없을 정도로 바쁘다는 것은 내가 세상을 향한 욕심을 버리지 않고 있다는 의미다. 

 

3) 기도는 한 마음이 되어 함께 할 때 속히 응답되어진다. 

· 모세가 기도할 때 아론과 훌이 함께 기도했다. 하나님께서는 우리 성도들이 기도할 때도 함께 기도하는 것을 기뻐하시고 속히 응답하신다.(마18:19,20)

· 이 땅을 회복시키고 교회들이 부흥하고 마지막 때에 하나님의 나라를 온 세상에 이루어가는 영적 부흥을 위해 가장 필요한 일은 함께 기도하는 일이다. 

· 또한 오이코스 모임에서 서로의 기도 제목을 나누고 함께 기도하는 것을 하나님은 기뻐하신다. 작은 소그룹 모임에서도 서로의 벽을 허물지 않고, 자신의 기도 제목을 나누지 않고 혼자 기도하면 그 기도를 하나님이 기뻐하지 않으신다. 

· 몸을 움직여서 섬기기에는 건강도 여건도 허락되지 않는다면, 그런 분들이 할 수 있는 가장 좋은 일은 중보 기도 사역에 함께 하는 것이다. 중보 사역은 돈이 들어가는 것도 아니고, 건강해야 하는 것도 아니다. 일주일에 한 번이라도 교회와 세계 선교를 위해 기도하는 것이 곧 선교하는 것이다.

· 함께 모여서 기도하되 먼저 하나님의 나라를 구할 때 하나님의 크신 역사를 경험하게 된다.(마6:33) 우리의 기도가 우리 자신의 삶을 변화시킬 뿐 아니라, 휄로쉽 교회와 더 나아가 한국 이민 교회와 시대를 변화시킬 수 있기를 소망한다.     *윌리암 캐리의 42년 사역에 가장 큰 힘이 된 누나의 기도

 

 

학습 및 적용 문제:

1) 천국 열쇠의 특성을 말해보고, 세상의 일 뿐만 아니라 영적인 일 조차도 기도가 아니라 내 힘으로 해결하려 했던 적은 없는 지 나누어보고, 그럴 때 어떤 결과가 있었는 지 말해보라.

2) 혼자 기도하지 않고 함께 기도할 때 어떤 역사들이 있었는 지 나누어보라.

Why Do You Worry When You Can Pray?

(Exodus 17:8–13; Matthew 16:19; 18:19–20)

· The problems that appear in the lives of believers often carry spiritual issues behind them. Therefore, no matter how carefully we analyze the visible causes or devise solutions, if we do not examine the spiritual dimension, the problem will not be fundamentally resolved.

· In order to live a victorious life on this earth, we must have spiritual discernment. When we clearly know what kinds of grace the Lord has given to us as believers, and what kind of victorious life we can live through that grace, we can truly live without being overcome by any situation.

 

1) The victory in the battle against Amalek depended on Moses’ prayer.

· The battle against Amalek shows us what kind of spiritual warfare believers will face today as they journey toward the eternal kingdom of God, and how they can live victoriously in those spiritual battles.

· What is unusual is that when war broke out, Moses—the one who should have been at the front, leading the battle—told Joshua to choose men who could fight against Amalek and go out to the battlefield, while he himself went up on the mountain. (v. 9)

· What is remarkable is that the outcome of the battle did not depend on Joshua, who was fighting hard with his sword at the foot of the mountain, but on Moses, who was praying on the mountain. (v. 11)

· When Moses said he would go up on the mountain with the staff of God, it meant that he would depend on the power of God. The staff Moses carried was the very staff through which many miracles had been displayed from the time Israel came out of Egypt.   *The reason God left Gideon with only 300 warriors (Judges 7:2)

· This is also why, even today, things in our lives may seem as though they should work out, yet still do not. God wants us to confess thoroughly that He is the one who has done it. If a problem is solved while it is only moderately difficult, people may say that it was not God’s work but merely a coincidence. So God often leads the situation in such a way that it becomes unmistakably clear that He has done it.  *What young David said when he faced Goliath (1 Samuel 17:45)

 

2) Christ has given the keys of the kingdom of heaven to believers today as well.

· Jesus said that He gave the keys of the kingdom of heaven to Peter, who confessed that Jesus is the Christ. (Matthew 16:19) In the Old Testament era, the privilege of opening and closing the doors of the kingdom was given only to a few gatekeepers of the temple, but in the New Testament era, this privilege has been given to all believers.  *“The keys of the kingdom of heaven” = causing the treasures of heaven to be released upon the earth

· This declares that the keys to open and close the doors of heaven have been given to the church and to believers on earth. Binding and loosing are works that God Himself does, but God carries them out through the prayers of His people. What is unfortunate is that many believers either do not use this tremendous privilege well, or they use it wrongly. Because they do not know how to use it properly, they use it incorrectly and then quickly give up, saying that it does not work.    *Martin Luther said that because he had so much to do, he prayed three hours a day.

· True masters do not move around much. They do not speak much either. Those who truly know the way do not run here and there, nor do they keep asking this person and that person for help. Instead, when necessary, they simply turn the key once.

· If we are not devoted to prayer, it means that we have fallen into either spiritual laziness or worldly desire. Even Jesus worked late into the night, and early the next morning, according to His custom, He went to a solitary place and prayed. (Mark 1:35) We cannot use tiredness or busyness as an excuse.

· God said that things are made holy through the word of God and prayer. (1 Timothy 4:5) Therefore, God does not lead our lives in such a busy way that we do not even have time to pray. If I am so busy that I do not even have time to pray, it means that I have not let go of my desires for the world.

 

3) Prayer is answered quickly when we pray together with one heart.

· When Moses prayed, Aaron and Hur prayed together with him. In the same way, God is pleased when believers pray together, and He answers such prayers quickly. (Matthew 18:19–20)

· The most necessary thing for the restoration of this land, the revival of churches, and the spiritual awakening through which God’s kingdom will be fulfilled throughout the whole world in the last days is that we pray together.

· God is also pleased when we share prayer requests with one another and pray together in our Oikos gatherings. Even in small group meetings, if we do not break down the walls between us, if we do not share our prayer requests, and if we only pray alone, God is not pleased with such prayer.

· For those whose health or circumstances do not allow them to serve physically, the best thing they can do is to participate in the ministry of intercessory prayer. Intercessory ministry does not require money, nor does it require physical strength. Even praying once a week for the church and for world missions is itself participation in missions.

· When we gather together to pray, and when we first seek the kingdom of God, we will experience the great works of God. (Matthew 6:33) May our prayers not only transform our own lives, but also transform Fellowship Church, the Korean immigrant church, and even this generation.  *The prayers of William Carey’s sister were the greatest source of strength in his 42 years of ministry.

1) Explain the characteristics of the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Share whether there were times when you tried to solve not only worldly matters, but even spiritual matters, by your own strength rather than through prayer. What were the results?

2) Share what works of God you have experienced when you prayed together with others rather than praying alone.
