우리를 시험에 들게 하지 마옵소서 (Matthew 6:13)

 

· 주기도문의 여섯 번째 청원은 ‘우리를 시험에 들게 하지 말라’는 기도인데, 마태복음에서는 이 청원에 ‘우리를 악에서 구출하여 주옵소서’라는 청원을 덧붙이고 있다. 시험에 들지 말게 해 주시라는 기도는 소극적인 의미이고, 악에서 구원하여 달라는 기도는 좀 더 적극적인 의미다. 

 

1)시험은 ‘유혹’(temptation)의 의미와 테스트(test) 혹은 시련(trial)의 의미가 있다. 

· 테스트의 의미의 시험은 어떤 사람에게 충성심이 있나 없나를 알아보고 싶다든지, 선한 일에 대한 동기가 무엇인가 하는 것을 알기 위해 한번 그 사람을 흔들어 보는 것이 시험이다. 또한 그 과정을 통해 우리의 믿음이 더욱 굳건하게 하기 위해 하나님이 주시는 시험이다.  

  *아브라함에게 아들 이삭을 번제물로 바치도록 하신 시험(창22장) 

· 시험에는 사탄이 주는 유혹의 시험도 있다. 예수님이 받으셨던 세 가지 시험은 인간들이 자주 받는 유혹을 대표한다. 떡의 시험을 통해 사탄은 오늘도 우리로 하여금 먹고 살 일을 걱정하게 하며, 오직 육신이 원하는 대로 살도록 유혹한다. 또한 성전에서의 시험은 자기를 과시하게 만들고 교만하게 하려는 시험이다. 마지막으로 마귀는 권력과 영광 받게 하려는 시험을 한다. 사실 사람들이 가장 극복하기 힘든 시험이 바로 명예에 대한 시험이다.

   2) 시험에 빠져들지 않게 해달라는 기도는 성령님의 도우심을 통해 시험을 이겨내라는 말이다.

· 하나님 나라의 구원이 아직도 완성을 향해 가고 있다는 사실은 우리로 하여금 날마다 ‘하나님의 통치를 방해하는 사단의 시험으로부터 지켜 주시라’고 기도하게 만든다. 이 기도를 하지 않으면 우리는 사단의 유혹에 속수무책으로 당하게 되기 때문이다.

· 그렇다고 사단의 역사를 너무 두려워해서도 안 된다. 우리가 사단의 통치에 대한 분명한 의식을 갖는 것은 중요하지만 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 우리는 사단의 궤계를 무찌르고 승리하였으며, 이 승리가 우리 안에는 이미 보장되어 있다는 사실을 잊지 말아야 한다.

· 신사도 운동의 부작용은 사람들로 하여금 구원의 감격과 기쁨 속에 살게 하는 것이 아니라 사단과 귀신에 대한 공포 속에 살게 만든다. 물론 사단의 엄연한 통치를 분별해야 하는 것은 맞지만 사단과 그 졸개들인 귀신을 두려워할 필요는 없다.    *피터 와그너가 2000년 국제 사도 연맹을 창설한 이유 

3) ‘악에서 구해달라’는 ‘시험에 들지 말게 해달라’는 기도보다 좀 더 적극적인 기도다. 

· ‘악’은 헬라어로 ‘τοῦ πονηροῦ (투 포네로우)’인데, 먼저 육체적인 악이 있다. 이것은 질병이나 피로와 굶주림 등 육체적인 고통을 초래하는 모든 것들을 말한다. 또한 마음의 악도 있다. 교만함이나 허무감이나 절망 같은 악한 마음들이다. 오늘날 모든 인간들은 이 악 때문에 많은 고통을 받고 있다. 내 스스로가 고통스러운 삶을 살고 있기도 하고, 나의 악으로 말미암아 남을 고통스럽게 하기도 한다. 그러나 기도할 때 이런 육체적인 혹은 마음의 고통으로부터 벗어날 수 있다. 때로는 그 악과 마주치지 않도록 피할 길을 주셔서 그 악의 역사를 모면케 하시기도 한다.

· 주께서 악의 문제를 해결하시는 방법에는 오히려 질병이나 고통스러운 상황들은 여전히 남아 있지만 그것들을 믿음으로 이기게 하시는 것도 있다.(요일 5:4,5) 오늘 나를 이런 어려움 가운데 있게 하시는 것은 그 일들을 통해 나를 더욱 굳건하게 하시고, 더 믿음의 사람으로 세우시는 것이다. 이 세상 살아가는 일들이 내 힘으로 되는 것이 아니라 결국은 주님의 도우심 가운데 이루질 수 있는 것임을 경험케 하려는 것이다. 

· 그런 하나님의 의도를 안다면 당장에 해결되지 않는 악의 문제로 그저 염려하고 두려워하고 불평만 하고 있지 않아야 한다. 이 모든 것들을 통해 내 믿음이 더욱 굳건해지며 내가 더욱 성숙해지를 기대하는 가운데 끊임없이 주께 도우심을 구해야 한다.

· 고난은 실패가 아니라 오히려 하나님을 더 깊이 만나는 통로가 된다. 인간의 이해를 뛰어넘는 고통 속에서만 하나님은 여전히 선하시고 신실하신 분인 것을 알게 되기 때문이다. 당장 눈에 보여지는 상황에 마음 빼앗기고 어둠에 휩쌓여 있는 것이 아니라, 끝까지 흔들림없이 사명 감당하다가 영광스럽게 주님 품에 안겨야 겠다는 다짐을 한다.

Lead Us Not into Temptation (Matthew 6:13)

 

· The sixth petition of the Lord’s Prayer is, “Lead us not into temptation.” In Matthew’s Gospel, this petition is followed by another: “Deliver us from evil.” The prayer not to be led into temptation has a more defensive meaning, while the prayer to be delivered from evil has a more active meaning.

 

1)The word “temptation” can refer either to an enticement to sin or to a test or trial.

· A test may be given to determine whether a person is truly loyal or to reveal the real motivation behind a good deed. It is like shaking a person in order to discover what is truly inside. God also allows tests in order to make our faith stronger through the process.  *The test in which Abraham was commanded to offer his son Isaac as a burnt offering (Genesis 22)

· There are also temptations that come from Satan. The three temptations Jesus faced represent the temptations human beings commonly experience. Through the temptation involving bread, Satan still causes us to worry about how we will survive and tempts us to live only according to the desires of the flesh. The temptation at the temple was intended to make Jesus display Himself and become proud. Finally, the devil tempted Him with power and glory. In fact, one of the most difficult temptations for people to overcome is the temptation of honor and recognition.   *The temptation to seek honor that appears whenever church officers are elected

2) Praying that we will not fall into temptation means asking for the help of the Holy Spirit so that we may overcome it.

· The fact that the salvation of God’s kingdom is still moving toward its final completion causes us to pray every day, “Protect us from Satan’s temptations, which seek to hinder the reign of God.” Unless we pray this prayer, we will be helpless against Satan’s temptations.  *Churches today that hold meeting after meeting until they fall into doubt and skepticism

· At the same time, we should not be overly afraid of Satan’s activity. It is important to have a clear awareness of Satan’s rule and influence, but we must never forget that through Jesus Christ we have already defeated Satan’s schemes and gained the victory, and that this victory has already been secured for us.

· One harmful effect of the New Apostolic Reformation is that, rather than helping people live in the joy and wonder of salvation, it causes them to live in fear of Satan and demons. We must certainly discern the real activity of Satan, but we do not need to fear Satan or the demons who serve him.   *Why Peter Wagner established the International Coalition of Apostles in 2000

3) “Deliver us from evil” is a more active prayer than “Lead us not into temptation.”

· The Greek expression for “evil” is τοῦ πονηροῦ (tou ponērou). First, there is physical evil. This refers to everything that causes physical suffering, such as disease, exhaustion, and hunger. There is also evil within the heart, such as pride, emptiness, and despair. Today, all people suffer greatly because of these forms of evil. We may be living painful lives ourselves, and we may also cause suffering to others because of the evil within us. Yet through prayer, we can be delivered from such physical and emotional suffering. Sometimes God provides a way of escape so that we do not encounter the evil at all and are spared from its harmful effects.  *God has enabled me to fulfill my calling until this day through the prayers of the church members.

· One way the Lord deals with evil is by enabling us to overcome it through faith, even when illness and painful circumstances remain. (1 John 5:4–5) God may allow me to remain in difficult circumstances today in order to strengthen me through them and establish me as a person of deeper faith. He wants me to experience that life in this world cannot ultimately be lived by my own strength, but only through the help of the Lord.

· Once we understand God’s purpose, we should not merely worry, fear, and complain about problems of evil that are not immediately resolved. Instead, we should continually seek the Lord’s help, expecting that through all these things our faith will become stronger and we will grow into greater spiritual maturity.

· Suffering is not failure. Rather, it becomes a pathway through which we encounter God more deeply. It is often in suffering that surpasses human understanding that we come to know that God is still good and faithful. Instead of allowing my heart to be consumed by the circumstances visible before me and becoming overwhelmed by darkness, I resolve to carry out my calling faithfully and without wavering until the end, and then be received gloriously into the arms of the Lord.
