우리의 죄를 사하여 주옵소서 마6:12

 

· 주기도문의 다섯 번째 청원은 바로 죄의 문제를 다루고 있다. 우리가 하나님께로부터 받아야 할 복이 많지만, 반드시 받아야 하고 또 계속적으로 받아야 할 복은 사죄함이다.  

 

1) 죄는 하나님과의 관계 속에서 이해되어져야 하는 절대적 개념이다. 

· 죄 중에 가장 큰 죄는 온 우주와 인간을 창조하신 하나님을 알아 보지 못하고 하나님과 분리된 삶을 사는 것이다.(롬1:20) 죄란 하나님의 존재 자체를 부인하는 것이요, 하나님을 믿지 않는 것이다.(요16:8,9)   *스티븐 호킹의 ‘무경계 제안’(No-boundary proposal)의 문제점 

· 죄는 이 세상과 우리의 삶의 주인되신 하나님의 뜻을 따라 살지 않는 것이다. 성경에 쓰여진 죄의 용어 중 가장 많이 쓰고 있는 단어는 ‘하마르티아(ἁμαρτία/눅11:4)’ 인데, 뜻이 ‘과녁을 맞추지 못했다’는 뜻이다. 

· 따라서 죄란 성경에 기록된 하나님의 뜻에 합당하게 살지 못한 모든 것이 죄가 된다. 그러므로 남의 물건을 훔친 것도 죄지만, 하나님의 뜻에 따라 어려운 형편에 처한 자를 돕지 않은 것도 당연히 죄다.(요일3:17,18) 남을 때려서 상해를 입힌 자도 죄를 지은 것이지만 마음으로 남을 미워하고 사랑하지 않는 것도 죄가 된다.(요일3:15) 하나님의 돌보심을 믿어야 하는데 그것을 믿지 않고 염려하는 것도 당연히 죄이다.(벧전5:7) 

· 예수님의 명령인 모든 족속을 제자 삼는 일에 관심을 두지 않고, 내 자신의 욕심만을 채우며 살아가는 것도 죄가 된다. 본문에서 사용한 죄에 대한 단어는 '오훼일네마((ὀφείλημα) 인데, 그 뜻은 ‘채무’라는 뜻이다. 예수님께 사랑의 빚을 지었으면서도 그 빚을 갚고 있지 않고 있는 것도 죄라는 말이다. 

 

2) 모든 고통의 근원적인 원인이 하나님을 떠나 짓는 죄이기 때문에 죄 용서함을 받아야 한다.

· 하나님을 떠난 인간들은 멀쩡하게 살아있는 것 같은데 사실은 하나님을 몰라봄으로 영적으로는 죽어 있는 상태에 있다.(엡2:1) 영적인 죽음 상태에 있는 인간들은 내 스스로의 능력과 지혜로 살아가야 하니 항상 염려와 두려움 속에 살게 되는 것이다. 그리고 그렇게 살다 결국 육체적인 죽음에 이른다. 죽음 이후에는 영원한 형벌이 기다리고 있다.(계20:14)

· 이렇게 인간들을 죽음의 구렁텅이로 몰아 넣는 죄의 댓가를 예수 그리스도께서 대신 치러주셨다. 따라서 주기도문은 그리스도를 통해서 죄 사함을 받으라는 요구이다. 예수님을 통해 죄의 문제를 해결하고 죄로부터 오는 모든 고통으로부터 해방되는 자유를 맛보라는 것이다.

· 주님은 우리 안의 어둠을 가져가시고 우리를 회복시켜 주실 수 있는 유일한 분이시다. 오직 주님만이 위로자이시며 해결자 이시다. 예수님께서 우리에게 죄사함의 기도를 하라는 것은 유일한 위로자요 해결자이신 주님의 은혜를 죄사함을 통해 맛보라는 것이다.

· ‘회심’이란 지난 날 하나님을 알지 못하고 살던 삶을 청산하고 이제는 그리스도 안에서 새로운 삶을 살고자 인생의 방향을 전적으로 돌려놓는 것을 의미한다. 회심은 한번으로 족하며, 우리는 모든 죄의 결과로부터 자유하게 된다. 회심을 한 후에는 다시 죄를 지은다 할지라도 회심으로 이루어진 우리와 하나님과의 부자 관계는 끊어지지 않고, 영원한 멸망에 빠지지는 않는다.

· 그러나 일상 속에서 날마다 짓는 죄에 대한 회개를 하지 않으면 하나님과의 교제 관계가 끊어지게 된다. 교제 관계의 단절은 곧 바로 하나님이 주시는 은혜를 일시적으로 단절시키는 결과를 가져온다.   *베드로에게 목욕할 필요는 없지만 발을 씻으라 하신 이유(요13:8-11) 

 

3) 용서의 청원에는 먼저 남을 용서하라는 전제 조건이 있다. 

· 하나님의 죄의 용서의 은혜를 우리가 가로막아서는 안된다. 죄 용서가 우리의 이웃으로 전달되어져야 한다. 바로 주기도문에 우리가 우리의 죄를 사하여 준 것 같이 라는 단서가 붙은 것은 이런 의도에서 였다.(마6:14,15)   *웨슬리가 용서하지 않는 자에게 한 이야기

· 용서를 구할 때 내가 할 용서를 먼저 생각해야 한다. 하나님께 무작정 나의 잘못을 용서해 주실 것을 구할 것이 아니라 내가 해야 할 용서가 무엇인가를 생각해야 한다. 우리의 기도가 응답되지 못하는 이유가 어쩌면 내가 마음 속에 누군가를 미워하는 죄를 범하고 있기 때문일 수 있다. 

  *초기 기독교 시기의 교회 성장이 괄목할 만한 이유

· 순교자들은 예수님처럼 살인자들의 죄를 용서해 달라고 기도함으로 죽음을 맞이했다. 그들은 무엇보다도 자신에게 영원한 생명의 은혜를 주신 예수님의 십자가의 고난을 먼저 생각했기 때문이며, 또한 그것이 주님의 명령이기 때문이었다. 

· 중앙아시아를 다녀오면서 하나님 나라의 일을 위해서는 하나님께서 친히 모든 것을 준비하신다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 진행된 사역 중에는 찬양 사역이나 기도 사역, 문화 사역 등도 다 의미가 있었고 감사한 일들이 있었지만 특별히 의료 사역이 빛을 발했다.     *의료 선교팀의 필요성

· 하나님은 세상 사람들에게도 그리스도로 말미암는 죄사함의 축복을 누릴 수 있게 하라고 하셨다.  그리고 그것은 먼저 사랑을 받은 우리가 각자 받은 은혜 대로 그리스도의 사랑을 세상에 나타내는 것이다. 

 

학습 및 적용 문제:

1) 죄 용서를 구하는 기도를 말씀하신 이유와 그 기도를 하기 전에 먼저 해야 할 일은 무엇인지 말해보라. 

2) 나는 매일의 삶 속에서 계속적인 회개를 하고 있는 지, 나의 용서를 구하기 전에 다른 사람을 용서하고 있는 지 나누어보자. 

 Forgive Us Our Sins (Matthew 6:12)

· The fifth petition of the Lord’s Prayer deals directly with the issue of sin. There are many blessings we need to receive from God, but the blessing we must receive—and must continue to receive—is the forgiveness of sins.

 

1)Sin is an absolute concept that must be understood in one’s relationship with God.

· The greatest of all sins is failing to recognize God, who created the whole universe and humanity, and living a life separated from Him (Rom. 1:20). Sin is the denial of God’s very existence, and it is unbelief in God (John 16:8–9). *The problem with Stephen Hawking’s “No-boundary proposal”

· Sin is living without following the will of God, who is the Lord of this world and of our lives. Among the biblical terms for sin, one of the most frequently used words is hamartia (ἁμαρτία / Luke 11:4), which means “to miss the mark.”

· Therefore, sin includes everything that falls short of living according to the will of God revealed in Scripture. Stealing someone else’s possessions is certainly sin, but failing to help a person in difficult circumstances according to God’s will is also sin (1 John 3:17–18). Physically harming someone is sin, but hating someone in the heart and failing to love that person is also sin (1 John 3:15). Since we are called to trust in God’s care, worrying instead of trusting Him is also sin (1 Pet. 5:7).

· It is also sin to live only to satisfy our own desires while having no concern for the command of Jesus to make disciples of all nations. The word for sin used in today’s passage is opheilēma (ὀφείλημα), which means “debt.” In other words, even though we owe a debt of love to Jesus, failing to repay that debt is also sin.

 

2)Since the root cause of all suffering is sin committed by departing from God, we must receive the forgiveness of sins.

· Human beings who have departed from God may appear to be alive and well, but in reality, because they fail to recognize God, they are spiritually dead (Eph. 2:1). Those who are spiritually dead must live by their own ability and wisdom, and therefore they live constantly in anxiety and fear. Eventually, such a life leads to physical death. After death, eternal punishment awaits (Rev. 20:14).

· Jesus Christ paid the price of this sin, which drives humanity into the pit of death. Therefore, the Lord’s Prayer is a call to receive forgiveness of sins through Christ. It is an invitation to have the problem of sin resolved through Jesus and to experience freedom from all the suffering that comes from sin. *Counseling with the pastor’s son in Country K

· The Lord is the only One who can take away the darkness within us and restore us. Only the Lord is our Comforter and our Solution. When Jesus teaches us to pray for the forgiveness of sins, He is inviting us to experience, through forgiveness, the grace of the Lord who alone is our Comforter and our Solution.

· “Conversion” means turning completely from the former life of not knowing God and redirecting the course of one’s life toward a new life in Christ. Conversion is sufficient once and for all, and through it we are set free from the consequences of all sin. After conversion, even if we sin again, the Father-child relationship established between us and God is not severed, and we do not fall into eternal destruction.

· However, if we do not repent of the sins we commit daily, our fellowship with God is broken. The breaking of fellowship immediately results in the temporary interruption of the grace God gives. *The reason Jesus told Peter that he did not need a bath, but still needed his feet washed (John 13:8–11)

 

3)The petition for forgiveness includes the prior condition that we must first forgive others.

· We must not block the grace of God’s forgiveness. The forgiveness of sins must be passed on to our neighbors. This is the very reason the Lord’s Prayer includes the phrase, “as we also have forgiven our debtors” (Matt. 6:14–15). *What Wesley said to one who refused to forgive

· When we ask for forgiveness, we must first consider the forgiveness we ourselves must extend. Rather than simply asking God to forgive our wrongdoings, we must consider whom we need to forgive. One reason our prayers may not be answered could be that we are committing the sin of hating someone in our hearts. *The remarkable reason for the growth of the church in the early Christian period

· The martyrs faced death by praying, just as Jesus did, that the sins of their murderers would be forgiven. They did so because, above all, they remembered the suffering of the cross of Jesus, who had given them the grace of eternal life, and because this was the command of the Lord.

· Through my visit to Central Asia, I was able to see that God Himself prepares everything for the work of His kingdom. Among the ministries that took place, the praise ministry, prayer ministry, and cultural ministry were all meaningful and full of gratitude. Yet the medical ministry especially shone brightly.  *The need for a medical mission team

· God has commanded us to enable the people of the world also to enjoy the blessing of forgiveness of sins through Christ. And this begins with those of us who have first received His love, revealing the love of Christ to the world according to the grace each of us has received.

Study and Application Questions:

1)Why did Jesus teach us to pray for the forgiveness of sins, and what must we do before offering that prayer?

2)Let us share whether we are practicing continual repentance in our daily lives, and whether we are forgiving others before asking for our own forgiveness.
