   하나님의 뜻이 땅에 이루어지게 하소서 (마6:10)

 

· 주님이 세 번째 가르쳐주신 기도는 하나님의 뜻이 땅에서도 이루어지게 해달라는 기도다. 여기서 ‘이루어지게 하소서’ 는 ‘γενηθήτω’(게네태토)인데, 3인칭 수동태 명령법으로 쓰였다. 결국 이 기도는 우리가 하나님께 명령하는 기도가 아니라, ‘하나님의 뜻이 나를 통해 현실이 되게 해달라’ 는 부탁의 기도이다.

· 또 ‘하늘에서 이루어진 것 같이’ 라는 말씀은 하나님 나라에서는 하나님의 뜻이 온전히 받아 들여지고 순종되는 것처럼, 땅 위에서도 하나님의 뜻이 그렇게 실제가 되게 해달라는 것이다. 그러므로 ‘하나님 뜻대로 되겠지요’ 하며 체념하고 있을 것이 아니라, 하나님의 통치가 실제로 구현되기를 구하라는 말이다.

 

1) 성경에 나타나는 하나님의 뜻은 창조와 구원과 관련된 하나님의 섭리를 뜻한다. 

· 창조와 관련된 하나님의 뜻은 그 창조의 최정점에 인간을 창조하시고 그 인간들에게 자신의 성품에 참여하는 특권을 허락하시어서 모든 피조물을 다스리게 하시는 것이었다.(계4;11)

· 안타깝게도 첫 사람 아담은 자신이 이미 왕임을 알지 못하고 자신이 하나님 되려고 하나님 앞에 불순종하게 되었다. 그 결과 인생들은 왕으로서의 지위를 잃었고 오히려 죽음을 맞이하게 되었다. 그러나 하나님은 그런 인생들을 다시 긍휼히 여기시고 왕의 지위를 회복시키시며, 하나님의 자녀 출생의 놀라운 일들을 계획하셨는데 이것이 세상을 향한 하나님의 뜻이다.(요6:40)

· 주변에 벌어지는 모든 일들도 내 삶의 촛점이 세상에만 맞추어져 있는 것이 아니라, 하나님이 뜻이 이 땅에 이루어지는 일에 관심을 갖게 하시려는 것이다.

· 이런 시각에서 우리 주변에 벌어지는 모든 일들을 바라볼 때 우리는 비로서 범사에 감사할 수 있고, 기뻐할 수 있으며, 고통스러운 상황 가운데서도 하나님이 하실 일을 기대하며 살아갈 수 있다.

 

2-1) 하나님의 뜻이 나를 통해 이루어지기를 구하는 기도를 하라는 말이다. 

· 이 기도는 예수님의 생애와 사역을 통하여 하나님의 나라가 이 땅에 날마다 확장되어지듯 나를 통해 하나님의 뜻이 땅에 이루어지기를 구하라는 것이다. 

· 그럼으로 이 기도를 하는 자는 당연히 예수님의 복음을 전하는 일에 힘써야 한다. 왜냐하면 영혼의 구원이 일어나려면 누군가 그 예수님의 복음을 전해야 하기 때문이다.(롬10:13-15) 감사한 것은 하나님의 나라가 확장되도록 복음을 증거하는 일은 우리로 하여금 무한한 기쁨을 갖게 한다는 것이다.(요4:34)   *개인 전도에 더 힘썼던 빌리 그레함 목사 

 

2-2) 나를 향한 하나님의 뜻이 온전히 이루어지기를 기도하는 것이다. 

· 이것은 내 안에 영혼 구원으로 시작된 예수님의 형상을 닮아가는 일이 날마다 계속되게 하라는 것이다.(히13:20,21) 하늘의 뜻이 이루어지는 것은 복음을 증거함으로 이루어져가지만 사실은 우리의 그리스도를 닮은 삶을 통하여서 증거되기 때문이다.

· 주님께서는 그런 목적을 가지고 우리에게 때로 멍에를 지워 주시기도 한다. 그러나 알고 보면 그 일을 통해 우리에게 예수님 닮은 모습인 겸손과 온유가 있게 하시려는 일들일 뿐이다.(마11:29,30) 그리고 그 쉼은 육체적인 쉼이 아니라 궁극적으로 마음의 쉼을 얻는 것인데, 마음의 쉼은 멍에와 같은 인생의 짐은 여전히 있지만 예수님께 나아가 그 짐을 맡길 때 찾아온다.

2-3) 우리를 향한 하나님의 구체적인 계획이 이루어져감을 믿고 아멘하기를 구하는 것이다. 

· 우리를 향한 구체적인 뜻이 드러나 있지 않을 지라도, 분명한 것은 결국 우리 개인을 향한 하나님의 뜻도 이 세상을 향한 하나님의 구원 계획을 이루어가기 위한 것이라는 것이다.

· 하나님의 뜻이 우리의 뜻과 같지 않을 때는 하나님은 우리에게 가장 좋은 것으로만 인도해 가신다는 것을 먼저 신뢰해야 한다. 그리고 우리의 인생의 계획 조차도 하나님께 맡기고 따라가야 한다.  *예수님의 겟세마네 동산에서의 기도

· 주님께서 가르쳐 주신 기도의 핵심도 바로 이것이다. 항상 내 뜻을 관철시키려 하거나, 내 뜻대로 일이 되어지기를 구하는 것이 아니라, 주의 뜻이 이루어지기를 구하는 것이다. 설사 주의 뜻이 나의 뜻과 다를 지라도 그 뜻에 순종하기를 구하는 것이다.

· 인간은 하나님의 뜻을 이루는 것이 임무요, 하나님은 그 뜻을 이루는 자를 보호하시고 축복하시는 것이 임무이다. 이제 그 뜻을 알고 준행해 나가는 자에게는 두려움이 없다. 단지 그 뜻에 순종하느냐 아니냐의 문제가 있을 뿐이다. 뜻을 따르는 자에게는 실패란 없다. 항상 승리와 감사와 찬양이 있을 뿐이다. 나는 그저 현재의 삶의 문제들로 신음 소리만 내는 것이 아니라, 주를 위해 고난 받는 것을 영광스럽게 생각하고, 오히려 감사의 찬송을 올렸던 믿음의 선친들을 먼저 떠올려야 한다.

May God’s Will Be Done on Earth (Matthew 6:10)

 

The third prayer the Lord taught us is the prayer that God’s will would be done on earth as well. Here, “let it be done” is written as genēthētō, a third-person singular imperative. Ultimately, this prayer is not a prayer in which we command God, but a prayer of request: “Let Your will become reality through me.”

The phrase “as it is in heaven” means that just as God’s will is fully received and obeyed in the kingdom of God, His will would likewise become reality here on earth. Therefore, this is not a call to sit back in resignation, saying, “Let God’s will be done,” but a call to pray that God’s reign would actually be manifested.

 

1) The will of God revealed in Scripture refers to God’s providence related to creation and salvation.

God’s will related to creation was to create human beings as the crown of His creation, grant them the privilege of participating in His own character, and allow them to rule over all creation (Revelation 4:11).

Sadly, the first man, Adam, failed to realize that he was already a king and disobeyed God, seeking to become like God himself. As a result, humanity lost its royal status and instead came to face death. But God had compassion on such human beings, planned to restore their royal status, and planned the marvelous work of giving birth to children of God. This is God’s will for the world (John 6:40).

Even all the events that happen around us are not meant to keep the focus of my life fixed only on the world, but to lead me to care about God’s will being done on this earth.   *The reason a large tree branch fell and caused injury while someone was walking in the park.

When we look at everything that happens around us from this perspective, we can finally give thanks in all circumstances, rejoice, and live with expectation for what God will do even in painful situations.

 

2-1) It means that we are to pray for God’s will to be fulfilled through us.

This prayer asks that, just as the kingdom of God continued to expand on earth through the life and ministry of Jesus, God’s will would be accomplished on earth through us.

Therefore, those who pray this prayer must naturally devote themselves to proclaiming the gospel of Jesus. This is because, for the salvation of souls to take place, someone must proclaim the gospel of Jesus (Romans 10:13–15). What is remarkable is that God allows us to experience immeasurable joy as we testify to the gospel so that His kingdom may expand (John 4:34).

2-2) It means praying that God’s will for me would be fully accomplished.

This means that the work begun in me through the salvation of my soul—the work of being conformed to the image of Jesus—would continue day by day (Hebrews 13:20–21). The will of heaven is carried out through the proclamation of the gospel, but in reality, it is also witnessed through our Christlike lives.

For that purpose, the Lord sometimes places a yoke upon us. But when we see it rightly, those are the very things through which He seeks to make us more like Jesus, full of gentleness and humility (Matthew 11:29–30). And that rest is not merely physical rest, but ultimately the rest of the heart. Although the burdens of life, like a yoke, may still remain, rest of the heart comes when we go to Jesus and entrust that burden to Him.

2-3) It means asking to believe and say “Amen” as God’s specific plan for us is being fulfilled.

Even when the specific will of God for us has not yet been clearly revealed, one thing is certain: God’s will for each of us personally is ultimately for the fulfillment of His plan of salvation for this world.

When God’s will is not the same as our own, we must first trust that God leads us only toward what is best for us. And we must entrust even the plans of our lives to God and follow Him.  *Jesus’ prayer in the garden of Gethsemane.

This is also the heart of the prayer the Lord taught us. It is not a prayer that always seeks to force my own will to be fulfilled, or that things would happen according to my desire. Rather, it is a prayer asking that the Lord’s will be done. Even if the Lord’s will differs from my own, it is a prayer asking for the grace to obey that will.

Humanity’s duty is to fulfill the will of God, and God’s work is to protect and bless those who fulfill His will. Those who know that will and walk in obedience to it have nothing to fear. The only issue is whether or not they will obey that will. For those who follow His will, there is no failure—only victory, thanksgiving, and praise. I must not merely groan because of the problems of my present life; instead, I must first remember the forefathers of faith who considered suffering for the Lord a glory and offered songs of thanksgiving.
