하나님의 나라가 임하게 하옵소서 (마6:10)

· 예수님은 왜 하나님의 나라가 이 땅에 임해야 한다고 말씀하셨고, 또 제자들에게 그것을 위해 기도하라고 하셨는 지에 대한 답은 사실 오늘날 이 시대를 살아가는 우리들이 이 땅에 살아가면서 무엇을 중요하게 생각하고 살아가야 하는 지, 또 그것을 위해 어떤 삶을 살아가야 할 지를 말해준다. 

1) 하나님 나라는 하나님의 주권과 통치가 미치는 영역을 말한다. 

· ‘하나님의 나라’의 ‘나라’ 에 해당되는 헬라어 단어는 ‘바실레이아’ (βασιλεία/ basileia)다. 이 단어는 영어의 kingdom처럼 ‘영토’를 뜻할 수도 있지만, 장소보다는 왕권, 다스림, 통치 행위의 의미가 더 크다. 그러므로 ‘하나님의 나라’란 하나님의 주권과 통치가 미치는 영역을 의미하는 것이다. 특별히 하나님의 다스림과 통치를 자발적으로 받아들이는 곳을 의미하는 것이다. 중요한 것은 성령의 역사하심으로 그 영혼이 다시 태어난 사람만이 그렇게 할 수 있다는 것이다. 

· ‘하나님의 나라는 물과 성령으로 거듭나야 들어 간다’(요3:6)는 말은 오직 성령의 역사로만 하나님의 나라가 보이고, 그 나라의 백성이 될 수 있다는 말이다. 여기서 ‘물’은 ‘물 세례’를 말하는 것은 아니라, 물처럼 죄를 씻어주는 특성을 갖는 성령의 역사로만 가능하다는 말이다

· 내가 성령의 세례를 받아 하나님 나라의 백성이 된 것은 바람에 나뭇가지가 흔들리는 것을 보면 바람이 불었다는 것을 알 수 있듯이, 성령의 세례가 있게 되면 그 결과 예수님의 존재를 인정하게 된다.

*바람과 성령은 같은 단어 = ‘프뉴마(πνεῦμα)’ 

2-1) 하나님의 나라가 확장되어지기를 구한다는 것은 회개한 심령에 임한 하나님의 나라가 실제적으로 누려지고 나타나게 되기를 구하는 것이다. 

· 내 삶에 하나님의 나라가 임하고 나타난다고 하는 것은 성령으로 말미암아 의와 평강과 희락이 내 안에 넘쳐나는 것이다.(롬14:17) 그러나 우리의 현실은 불의가 여전히 나타나고 있으며, 평강보다는 염려와 두려움이 있고, 상황이 조금만 내 뜻과 다르게 전개되어도 금방 불평과 원망이 넘쳐난다. 

· 하나님의 나라가 내 안에 이루어진다면 실제로 내 삶에 하나님의 의가 나타나야 한다. 여기서 말하는 ‘의’ 란 보혈의 은혜를 입어 하나님께로 부터 의인이라고 인정받아서 얻게 된 의가 아니라, 실제적으로 내 삶에 성결하고 거룩한 모습들이 나타나는 것을 말한다. 그런 의미에서 우리의 삶에 하나님의 나라가 임할 뿐 아니라 점점 확장되어져 가기 위해서는 계속해서 회개가 필요하다. (요13:10)

· 하나님 나라가 누려질 때 나타나는 평강은 세상이 주는 평강과는 다르다. 사단은 때로 직접적으로 우리의 육신을 공격하기도 할 것이고, 때로는 우리를 유혹하여 죄악에 빠지게도 할 것이고, 유화 전략을 써서 우리가 원하는 것들이 주어지게 함으로 점점 우리로 하여금 쾌락에 빠지도록 하기도 한다. 

· 그러나 우리에게는 어떤 사탄의 역사도 이겨낼 수 있는 능력이 주어져 있다. 예수의 이름으로 선포할 때 귀신의 세력이 물러가고 질병이 낳는 역사가 나타난다.(사53:5,6) 무엇보다도 어떤 사탄의 역사가 있어도 결국은 그 모든 것을 선한 뜻을 이루는 데 사용하시는 하나님이 계시다. 그러니 우리는 그 하나님을 바라볼 때 어떤 상황에서도 평강을 누릴 수 있다. 기쁨을 잃지 않을 수 있다. 

2-2) 하나님의 나라가 양적으로 확장되어가기를 구하는 기도이다. 

· 지금도 예수라는 말을 한번도 들어보지 못한 사람들이 있다. 죽음의 절망 너머 천국의 소망이 있음을 한번도 들어 보지 못하고 여전히 죄와 심판의 두려움 가운데 살아가는 사람이 있다. 무엇보다도 그들은 이 땅에서도 고통스럽게 살아가다 마침내 생을 마치면 그 순간 부터는 세상에 살았을 때 겪었던 고통스러운 삶보다 더 고통스러운 삶을 살게 된다는 것이다. 

· 하나님의 나라가 임하게 하는 것은 단순히 우리가 복음을 열심히 전함으로만 이루어지는 것은 아니다. 우리의 섬김을 통해 그리스도의 사랑을 그들에게 전하는 것이 중요하다. 사실 복음은 들려지는 것이 아니라 보여지는 것이어야 하고, 느껴지는 것이어야 한다.

· 십자가의 복음은 사랑의 섬김을 통해 십자가를 보여줄 수 있다. 그것이 복음의 씨앗을 뿌리는 것이다. 그리고 그 십자가의 은혜를 맛본 이들이 하나님의 때가 되면 오래 전에 들었던 복음을 받아들이게 되고, 크리스챤 리더들로 세워진다. 그리고 그들이 자신들의 가족을, 자신들의 마을과 나라를 하나님의 나라로 세워가게 된다.     *1989년 정은실 선교사님이 세우신 볼리비아의 우세볼 크리스챤 

· 선교지에 자주 가 보면 세상을 향한 하나님의 마음이 느껴진다. 세상을 향한 뜻을 이루시기 위해 오늘도 기가 막힌 역사로 세상을 이끌어가시는 하나님을 경험하게 된다. 기적같은 일들이 일어나게 해서라도 친히 뜻을 이루어가시는 것을 경험하면 정말 언어 습관이 바뀐다. 의심부터 하고 부정적인 말이 먼저 나가던 사람들이 ‘어떻게 해서든 하나님이 하실 것입니다!’ 라고 말하게 된다.

May Your Kingdom Come  (Matthew 6:10)

Jesus said that the kingdom of God must come upon this earth, and He taught His disciples to pray for it. The answer to why He did so tells us what we, who live in this present age, ought to value most as we live on this earth, and what kind of life we should live for that purpose.

1) The kingdom of God refers to the realm where God’s sovereignty and reign are exercised.

The Greek word translated as “kingdom” in “the kingdom of God” is basileia (βασιλεία). Like the English word “kingdom,” it can refer to a territory, but its primary meaning is not so much a place as kingship, reign, and the act of ruling. Therefore, “the kingdom of God” refers to the realm where God’s sovereignty and rule are exercised. More specifically, it refers to the place where God’s reign and rule are willingly received. What is important is that only those whose souls have been born again through the work of the Holy Spirit can do this.

When Jesus says that one must be born of water and the Spirit in order to enter the kingdom of God (John 3:6), He means that only through the work of the Holy Spirit can one see the kingdom of God and become a citizen of that kingdom. Here, “water” does not refer to water baptism, but to the work of the Holy Spirit, who cleanses sin like water.

The fact that I have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and become a citizen of the kingdom of God can be known in the same way that we know the wind has blown when we see tree branches moving. When the baptism of the Holy Spirit takes place, the result is that one comes to acknowledge the reality and presence of Jesus.

2-1) To pray for the kingdom of God to expand means to ask that the kingdom of God, which has come upon a repentant heart, may be truly experienced and revealed in practical ways.

For the kingdom of God to come and be revealed in my life means that righteousness, peace, and joy overflow within me through the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17). Yet in reality, unrighteousness still appears in us. Instead of peace, there are anxiety and fear. And when circumstances unfold even slightly differently from what we wanted, complaints and resentment quickly overflow.

If the kingdom of God is truly established within me, then God’s righteousness must actually be revealed in my life. The “righteousness” mentioned here does not refer to the righteousness by which we are declared righteous before God through the grace of Christ’s blood. Rather, it refers to the practical appearance of purity and holiness in our lives. In that sense, for the kingdom of God not only to come upon our lives but also to continue expanding within us, continual repentance is necessary (John 13:10).

The peace that appears when the kingdom of God is experienced is different from the peace the world gives. Satan may sometimes directly attack our bodies. At other times, he may tempt us and cause us to fall into sin. He may even use a strategy of appeasement, allowing us to receive the things we desire so that we gradually fall deeper into pleasure.

However, we have been given the power to overcome any work of Satan. When we proclaim in the name of Jesus, demonic powers are driven away and diseases are healed (Isaiah 53:5–6). Above all, no matter what work of Satan may arise, there is a God who ultimately uses all things to accomplish His good purpose. Therefore, when we look to that God, we can enjoy peace in every circumstance. We do not have to lose our joy.

2-2) This is also a prayer that the kingdom of God may expand quantitatively.

Even today, there are people who have never once heard the name of Jesus. There are people who have never heard that beyond the despair of death there is the hope of heaven, and who still live in fear of sin and judgment. Most of all, after they live in suffering on this earth and finally come to the end of their lives, from that moment on they will enter into a life even more painful than the suffering they experienced in this world.

The coming of the kingdom of God is not accomplished merely by our preaching the gospel diligently. It is important that we convey the love of Christ to them through our service. In truth, the gospel must not only be heard; it must be seen and felt.   *Christopher Wright’s definition of mission: restoring the fallen creation through the love of Christ.

The gospel of the cross can reveal the cross through loving service. That is how the seed of the gospel is sown. Then, when those who have tasted the grace of the cross come to God’s appointed time, they receive the gospel they had heard long ago and are raised up as Christian leaders. When we frequently visit mission fields, we begin to feel the heart of God toward the world. We experience God, who even today is leading the world through astonishing works in order to accomplish His purpose for the world. When we witness God accomplishing His will—even through miraculous events—our very language begins to change.
