큰 구원의 하나님

 

 

 

 

 

 

     큰 구원의 하나님 (창45:1-8)

· 많은 그리스도인들이 신앙 생활 때문에 마음의 평안이 누려지며, 삶에 소망을 갖게 되는 것이 아니라, 오히려 교회만 오면 마음이 부담스럽고, 죄책감까지 갖게 되는 것은 신앙 생활의 순서가 뒤바뀌어 있기 때문이다. 

· 우리는 하나님의 말씀을 따라 사는 것이 가장 우선되는 일이라 생각한다. 그러나 말씀대로 살고자 하는 일 보다 먼저 해야 할 일은 하나님이 어떤 분이신지, 하나님이 베풀어주신 사랑과 은혜가 무엇인지를 알고 깨닫는 것이다. 

 

1)요셉은 하나님께서 오늘도 큰 구원의 역사를 이루시기 위해 자신의 삶을 이끌어 오셨음을 보여준다. 

· 요셉은 자신이 바로 요셉임을 형들에게 밝힌다. 애굽에 팔려갔던 동생이 오늘날 자신들의 생명의 여탈권을 쥔 애굽의 총리로 자신들 앞에 서있는 상황에서 형들은 이제 죽었구나 하고 생각했을 것이다. 

· 그러나 요셉의 태도는 예상 밖이었다. 지난 날 자신들의 죄 때문에 두려워하고 있는 형제들에게 요셉은 부드러운 음성과 따뜻한 위로의 말을 하고 있다.(4,5절)

· 요셉은 마침내 애굽의 총리가 되고, 형들이 자기에게 절을 하는 모습을 보게 되었을 때, 이 모든 고통의 시간들이 형들 때문이 아니었구나 생각하게 되었을 것이다. 

· 오히려 형들의 시기를 통해 자신에게 주신 꿈이 이루어지게하시고, 또한 총리가 된 요셉을 통해 남은 형제들의 생명을 구원하신 하나님의 섭리를 알게 되었을 것이다. 

· 하나님께서는 성도들을 향한 어떠한 사단의 역사도 결코 성공하지 못하게 하신다. 사단이 아무리 연약한 성도들을 유혹하고 다른 심령들을 통해 넘어뜨리려 해도 결코 망하게 하지는 못한다. 모든 것을 합력해서 역하시는 하나님의 자비와 은혜가 있기 때문이다. 

· 결국 요셉은 이스라엘 가족의 육신적인 구원만을 위해서 13년간의 고통을 받은 것이 아니라, 후에 태어날 메시야로 인하여 구원받을 모든 남은 자들, 바로 여러분들을 위해서 고통받은 것이다. 

 

2) 요셉은 자신이 현재 누리고 있는 축복도 오직 하나님께서 주신 은혜인 것으로 받아들였다. 

· 그는 형들에게 즉시 가서 가족들을 애굽으로 데리고 오도록 청한다. 자신이 총리가 된 것도 야곱 가족들의 생명이 보존되도록 하나님께서 하신 일임을 알았기 때문이다.

· 하나님은 야곱의 가족들을 구원하는 일이 아니였다면, 애초 아브라함에게 약속하신 바 대로 이스라엘이 큰 민족이 되게 하시는 일이 아니었다면 요셉을 총리로 세울 일도 없었을 것이다. 하나님은 큰 구원의 역사를 이루기 위해 히브리 출신의 노예를 애굽의 총리로 까지 세워주신 것이다.

· 내가 많이 부족한 사람처럼 보일 지라도, 현재 내가 가진 것은 내가 이루고자 하는 목적을 이루기에 턱없이 부족해 보일지라도 낙심하거나 포기하지 않을 수 있어야 한다. 억울하고 힘든 상황을 거치고 있다 할지라도 그저 불평하고 염려만 하는 것이 아니라, 오히려 이런 과정을 통해서도 일을 이루어내시는 하나님을 여전히 기대할 수 있어야 한다. (대상29:12)

· 뭔가 잘 되어가는 상황에 처해 있다면, 그것 역시 내가 똑똑하고 잘나서 그런 것이 아니라는 것을 알아야 한다. 그리고 그것을 늘 잊지 않는 사람이라면 요셉 처럼 총리가 되어 있어도 자신을 총리로 세우신 하나님의 목적이 무엇일까 고민하게 될 것이다.

· 좋은 대학과 좋은 직장에 들어가게 되었다면, 미국에 이민 와서 이만큼이나마 살게 되었다면, 미국에 와 살다 보니 영어라도 잘 할 수 있게 되었다면 그것은 큰 구원을 이루시기 위해 하나님이 주신 축복임을 기억해야 한다. 

 

3) 요셉은 항상 겸손하게 자신의 역할을 다함으로 많은 사람들의 존경을 받게 되었다. 

· 바로와 궁중 사람들 모두는 요셉이 가족을 만나게 되었다는 소식을 듣고 다 기뻐하였다. 더구나 바로는 요셉 가족이 애굽에 내려와 편안하게 생활할 수 있도록 초청을 한다.(18절) 이것은 요셉이 바로와 아랫 사람들로부터 존경받는 사람이었다는 것을 반증한다. **신앙적 발언을 하는 요셉의 청지기(창43:23)

· 우리는 구원 얻을 자들이나 망할 자들에게나 ‘그리스도의 향기’로 살아야 한다. 우리가 가진 것에 대해 교만하지 않고 겸손하게 살 때, 우리가 잃은 것에 대해 지나치게 슬퍼하지 않으며 오히려 감사하며 살아갈 때, 비로서 우리를 통해 그리스도의 향기가 세상 사람들에게 전해진다.

· 하나님께서 우리의 삶에 그리고 계시는 모든 그림들은 결국 큰 구원의 역사를 이루시기 위한 일들이다. 우리가 그런 하나님의 의도를 눈치채고 산다면, 오늘 우리들이 어떤 축복을 받고 살든지, 반대로 어떤 역경 가운데 처해있든지, 우리의 결단은 결국 큰 구원의 역사에 동참하는 일일 것이다. 그리고 그렇게 살고자 할 때 우리가 겪고 있는 역경은 오히려 금방 끝날 수도 있고, 하나님이 여러분으로 하여금 더 큰 축복 가운데 있게 하실 수도 있을 것이다.

학습 및 적용 문제:

1)요셉이 겪은 삶의 과정들은 결국 어떤 하나님을 보여주는 것인지 그의 삶의 과정을 통해 설명해보라.

2)내가 지금 겪고 있는 모든 삶의 과정도 결국 하나님의 큰 구원의 역사에 동참하도록 하나님이 하시는 일이라면 내가 오늘 그런 목적을 따라 살기 위해 구체적으로 결단해야 할 것은 무엇인지 나누어보자. 

The God of Great Salvation (Genesis 45:1–8)

· Many Christians do not experience peace of heart or gain hope in life through their faith. Instead, they feel burdened whenever they come to church, and even carry a sense of guilt. This is because the proper order of the Christian life has been reversed.

· We often think that the highest priority is to live according to God’s Word. Yet before trying to live according to His Word, there is something that must come first: we must know who God is and come to understand the love and grace He has bestowed upon us.

 

1) Joseph shows that God has been leading his life in order to accomplish a great work of salvation even today.

· Joseph reveals to his brothers that he is Joseph. In that moment, the brother they had sold into Egypt was now standing before them as the governor of Egypt, the one who held the power of life and death over them. Surely they must have thought, Now we are doomed.

· Yet Joseph’s attitude was completely unexpected. To his brothers, who were trembling in fear because of their past sin, Joseph spoke with a gentle voice and words of warm comfort (vv. 4–5).

· When Joseph finally became the governor of Egypt and saw his brothers bowing before him, he must have realized that all those years of suffering had not simply been caused by his brothers. Rather, through their jealousy, God had brought to fulfillment the dream He had given Joseph, and through Joseph’s rise to power, God had preserved the lives of his remaining brothers. Joseph came to see the providence of God in all of this.

· God never allows any work of Satan against His people to succeed in the end. No matter how much Satan may tempt weak believers or try to make them stumble through others, he cannot destroy them. This is because of the mercy and grace of God, who works all things together.

· In the end, Joseph did not suffer for thirteen years merely for the physical salvation of the family of Israel. He suffered also for all the remnant who would one day be saved through the Messiah who was yet to come—that is, for people like you.

 

2) Joseph received even the blessings he was enjoying in the present as grace given only by God.

· He immediately asked his brothers to go and bring their family down to Egypt. He understood that even his becoming governor of Egypt was something God had done in order to preserve the lives of Jacob’s family.

· If God had not intended to save Jacob’s family, if He had not intended to fulfill His promise to Abraham by making Israel into a great nation, then Joseph would never have been raised up as governor. God elevated a Hebrew slave all the way to the position of governor of Egypt in order to accomplish His great work of salvation.  *The backgrounds of the thirteen judges who saved Israel and the twelve disciples of Jesus

· Even if I may seem very lacking, and even if what I presently have appears far too insufficient to accomplish the purpose I hope to fulfill, I must not become discouraged or give up. Even if I am passing through unfair and painful circumstances, I should not merely complain and worry. Rather, I must continue to expect God, who is able to accomplish His work even through such a process (1 Chronicles 29:12).

· And if things are going well, I must also recognize that it is not because I am especially smart or capable. A person who does not forget this will, like Joseph, reflect even in a high position such as governor: For what purpose has God placed me here?  

· If you were admitted to a good university or obtained a good job, if you were able to build a life after immigrating to America, or if living in America enabled you to become fluent in English, then you must remember that these too are blessings God has given in order to accomplish a great salvation.

 

3) Joseph gained the respect of many people by always humbly fulfilling his role.

· When Pharaoh and all the people in his court heard that Joseph had been reunited with his family, they all rejoiced. Moreover, Pharaoh invited Joseph’s family to come down to Egypt and live there in comfort (v. 18). This proves that Joseph was a man respected both by Pharaoh and by those under him.

· We must live as “the fragrance of Christ” both to those who are being saved and to those who are perishing. When we do not become proud of what we have, but live humbly; when we do not grieve excessively over what we have lost, but rather live with gratitude—then through us the fragrance of Christ is truly conveyed to the people of the world.  *What God may yet do through the Kurdish people, who have been betrayed and disregarded by great powers

· All the pictures God is drawing in our lives are ultimately for the purpose of accomplishing His great work of salvation. If we discern that divine intention, then whether we are living under blessing or facing adversity, our decision in the end will be to take part in that great work of salvation. And when we choose to live in that way, the hardships we are experiencing may come to an end sooner than expected, or God may lead us into even greater blessing.  *The ministries of the Emeth Ensemble, the Hosanna Choir, the Elim Women’s Vocal Ensemble, and the Crown Singers

Questions for Study and Application

1)Through the course of Joseph’s life, explain what kind of God is being revealed.

2)If all the processes of life I am going through are also God’s way of leading me to participate in His great work of salvation, then what specific commitment must I make today in order to live according to that purpose?
