예수님을 따르는 제자입니까?  창34:1-4

 

· 제자란 구원의 은혜를 주신 예수님을 따르는 삶을 사는 자이다. 예수님을 따르는 제자의 삶에 있어서 가장 중요한 부분은 절대적으로 예수님을 신뢰하는 것이다. 제자는 축복된 일을 경험하든 고통스러운 일을 경험하든 그 모든 것들이 주님께서 하신 일로 알고 감사하며 헌신된 삶을 살게 된다. 

 

1) 예수님을 따르는 자들은 계속해서 주님만을 바라보아야 함을 보여준다.

· 디나가 강간을 당하게 된 이유는 강간을 한 세겜의 잘못이 크지만, 사실 그 출발은 디나 자신이 세상에 관심을 가진 탓이었다.(1절) 당시는 결혼하지 않은 여자가 보호자 없이 외출한다는 것은 위험한 일이었지만, 디나는 혼자 세겜 사람들의 사는 곳을 방문했다. 

· 디나는 결국 그 땅의 추장인 세겜에 의해 강간을 당했다. 사실 당시에는 추장이 자기 땅에 체류하는 여자들은 마음대로 취하여도 좋다는 특권이 있었다. 더구나 세겜은 디나를 강간한 후에 자신의 행동에 책임을 지고 디나를 아내로 맞이하겠다고 한다.(3,4절) 

· 강아지에게 아무 것이나 먹지 않도록 훈련하는 방식은 주인만 바라보게 하는 것처럼 세상에 대한 호기심을 방지할 수 있는 방법은 계속 주님만을 바라보게 하는 것이다.(히12:2) 예수님은 세상에 빠지기 쉬운 우리들에게 믿음을 주실 수 있고, 타락해 가기 쉬운 우리들을 온전케 해주실 수 있는 분이기 때문이다.  *1990년대 이후 미국 교회 몰락의 4가지 요인의 공통점은 세상을 보게 하는 것

예수를 바라보는 것은 예수님의 말씀을 계속해서 읽고 묵상하는 것이다. 그래서 예수님이 내 심령 안에 계속 머물게 하는 것이다. 그러면 세상에 대한 관심을 끊어낼 수 있고, 세상이 나를 유혹한다 할지라도 그 유혹을 이겨낼 수 있다.     *맥체인 성경 읽기표에 따라 오이코스 별로 경건 일기 쓰기

 

2) 예수를 따르는 자들은 원수 갚는 일 조차 주께 맡기고 살아야 한다. 

· 결국 세겜의 아버지 하몰은 야곱을 찾아가 디나를 아들 세겜의 아내로 줄 것을 요청한다. 심지어 자기 땅에 야곱의 가족들이 함께 거하며 살아도 좋다는 말을 했다. 또 세겜도 디나를 자신의 아내로 주기만 하면 큰 혼수와 예물을 청할 지라도 다 주겠노라고 한다.(8,10절)

· 이런 제안을 들은 야곱의 오빠들은 만약 세겜 사람들이 할례를 받으면 그 일을 허락하겠노라고 약속한다. 그러나 그들이 할례를 받은 지 제 삼 일에 야곱의 두 아들 시므온과 레위가 몰래 가서 하몰과 세겜을 비롯한 그 성의 남자들을 죽인다. 그리고 야곱의 다른 아들들도 그 성읍으로 가서는 그들의 재물들 뿐 아니라, 그들의 자녀들과 아내들까지 빼앗아 왔다.

· 야곱의 아들들의 행동은 악을 악으로 갚는 행동으로, 죄를 더할 뿐 원통함에 대한 근원적인 해결책이 될 수 없었다. 결국 야곱의 아들들은 또 다른 복수를 낳게 되고, 이것은 야곱 가족 전체의 생명의 위협으로 다가오게 되었다. 

· 사실 성도는 자신의 원통함을 신원해주시는 하나님이 계시기에 그런 일을 당했을 때 상대에게 직접적인 해를 가할 것이 아니라 하나님께 부탁해야 마땅하다. 하나님이 인간에게 부여하신 권한은 오직 이웃에 대한 관용과 사랑 뿐이다.(롬12:17-19)

· 하나님은 우리가 모든 핍박과 고통과 멸시를 당하고 있는 것을 다 보고 계신다. 그리고 침묵하지 않으신다. 하나님의 정의는 서두르지 않지만 결코 가만히 계시지도 않는다. 지금은 우리가 버림받은 것 처럼 느껴질지 몰라도 하나님은 바로 그 자리에서 반전을 준비하고 계시다. 사람들의 무시와 핍박, 현재 당하고 있는 힘든 상황들은 하나님의 사명 위에 선 사람들을 결코 멈추게 할 수 없다.  

· 한나는 수년 동안 남편의 첩인 브닌나로 부터의 조롱을 참으면서 하나님께만 하소연 했다. 그리고 그 일 후에 이스라엘의 영도자 사무엘을 얻었다.     *일본이 쇄락한 이유

 

3) 예수님을 따르는 자들은 눈에 보여지는 대로만 판단치 말고, 하나님을 절대적으로 신뢰해야 한다.

· 야곱은 형 에서를 속여 장자의 축복을 아버지 이삭으로 부터 받은 후, 벧엘에서 돌베개를 베고 자면서 꿈 속에서 하나님을 만났다.(창28:15) 그는 잠을 깬 후 하나님 앞에 약속하기를 다시 이땅으로 평안히 돌아오게 하시면 제단을 쌓고 십일조를 드리겠다고 약속했다.(창28:21,22) 

· 야곱은 하나님이 그 약속을 지키셨음에도 야곱은 약속을 지키지 않았다. 하나님은 디나의 강간 사건을 통해 야곱 가족들이 몰살 당할 위기에 처하게 되었을 때 그 약속이 생각나게 하셨다.(창35;1)

· 하나님은 항상 성도들이 하나님의 뜻 안에서 바른 길 가기를 원하신다. 세상과 타협하며 안일한 삶을 살려 하거나, 심지어 세상의 죄악된 삶을 따라 살아가면 친히 채찍을 드셔서라도, 우리가 어떤 영적 상태에 있는 지를 깨닫게 하신다. 그래서 다시 하나님의 거룩한 품으로 돌아오게 하신다. 이것이 우리를 사랑하시되 끝까지 사랑하시는 하나님의 사랑이다.(히12:7)   *어미 독수리가 둥지 안을 휘젓는 이유

· 예수님을 따랐던 12제자들은 모두가 복음을 전하다 순교했다. 원래 ‘증인(‘μάρτυς /martys)’의 뜻은 ‘순교자(martyr) 이다. 그리스도의 증인으로 살아가야 하는 제자의 삶은 순교자의 삶이다. 하나님은 우리가 지금 겪고 있는 모든 종류의 아픔들을 잘 알고 계시다. 그리고 지금은 침묵하고 계신 것 같지만, 하나님의 때에 정확하게 갚아 주신다. 그러므로 어떤 상황에서도 철저히 하나님을 신뢰할 때 거룩함을 이루어갈 수 있다. 

 

학습 및 적용 문제:

1) 디나의 강간 사건을 통해 얻게 된 제자의 삶에 대한 교훈 세가지를 정리해서 말해보라. 

2) 예수님을 신뢰함으로 철저히 하나님께 맡기는 삶을 살기로 결단할 때, 그런 제자의 삶을 위해 내가 결단한 것들을 나누어보자.

Are You a Disciple Who Follows Jesus? (Genesis 34:1–4)

· A disciple is someone who lives a life of following Jesus, who has granted us the grace of salvation. The most essential element in the life of a disciple who follows Jesus is to trust Him absolutely. Whether a disciple experiences blessing or suffering, he recognizes that all of it is the Lord’s doing, and he responds with gratitude, devotion, and a committed life of obedience.

 

1) Those who follow Jesus must continually fix their eyes on the Lord.

· Dinah’s rape was, of course, a grave sin and wrongdoing on Shechem’s part, but the beginning of the tragedy lay in Dinah’s own turning her attention toward the world (v. 1). In those days, it was dangerous for an unmarried woman to go out without protection, yet Dinah went alone to visit where the people of Shechem lived.

· In the end, Dinah was raped by Shechem, the leader of that region. At the time, there was a cultural assumption that a ruler had the “privilege” of taking women who stayed in his territory. Moreover, after violating Dinah, Shechem claimed he would take responsibility and marry her (vv. 3–4).

· Just as training a puppy not to eat just anything often involves teaching it to keep looking at its owner, the way to guard ourselves from curiosity toward the world is to keep looking to the Lord continually (Hebrews 12:2). Jesus is the One who can give faith to those of us who are easily drawn into the world, and He is the One who can perfect those of us who are prone to drift into corruption.  *common factors behind the decline of the American church

· To look to Jesus is to keep reading and meditating on His Word—so that Jesus remains continually within our hearts. When that happens, we can cut off undue fascination with the world, and even if the world tries to entice us, we can overcome its temptations.  *write a devotional journal by Oikos group.

 

2) Those who follow Jesus must entrust even vengeance to the Lord.

· Eventually, Shechem’s father Hamor came to Jacob and requested that Dinah be given to his son Shechem as a wife. He even offered that Jacob’s family could live together in their land. Shechem also insisted that if they would only give Dinah to him, he would pay any bride-price and gifts they demanded.

· Hearing this proposal, Dinah’s brothers promised that they would allow it if the men of Shechem received circumcision. But on the third day after they were circumcised, Jacob’s two sons Simeon and Levi went in secretly and killed the men of the city, including Hamor and Shechem. Then Jacob’s other sons came and plundered the city—taking not only possessions, but also women and children.

· What Jacob’s sons did was to repay evil with evil. It did not resolve their outrage at the root; it only multiplied sin. In the end, their violence provoked further retaliation, and the entire household of Jacob faced a threat.

· The believer has God who vindicates and defends His people. Therefore, when we are wronged, it is not right to inflict direct harm in return; we must bring the matter to God. The authority God grants to human beings is not vengeance, but mercy and love toward our neighbor.(Romans 12:17–19).

· God sees every persecution, every pain, and every contempt we endure—and He does not remain silent. God’s justice is never hurried, but it is never inactive. Even if it feels as though we have been abandoned, God is preparing a reversal right where we stand. People’s scorn, persecution, and the hardships we face cannot stop those who stand upon God’s mission.  

 

3) Those who follow Jesus must not judge only by what is visible; they must trust God absolutely.

· After Jacob deceived his brother Esau and received the firstborn blessing from his father Isaac, he met God in a dream at Bethel as he slept with a stone for a pillow (Genesis 28:15). When he awoke, he vowed that if God brought him back safely to this land, he would build an altar and give a tithe.

· Yet even though God kept His promise, Jacob did not keep his vow. Through the crisis of Dinah’s rape—when Jacob’s family faced the danger of being wiped out—God caused Jacob to remember that promise (Genesis 35:1).

· God always desires His people to walk the right path within His will. When we try to compromise with the world and settle into an easy, complacent life—or even follow the sinful patterns of the world—God will, if necessary, discipline us so we awaken to our true spiritual condition. And He brings us back into His holy embrace. This is the love of the God who loves us and loves us to the end (Hebrews 12:7).  *Why a mother eagle stirs up the nest.

· All twelve disciples who followed Jesus died as they proclaimed the gospel. The word “witness” (μάρτυς / martys) originally carries the meaning of “martyr.” A disciple’s life, called to live as Christ’s witness, is a martyr’s life. God knows every kind of pain we are enduring. Even if He seems silent for a time, He will repay with perfect accuracy in His appointed time. Therefore, when we trust God thoroughly in every circumstance, we can grow in holiness.
