세상살이 대 천국살이 

마6:25-27,31-33

 

· 죽음 후에 우리 모두는 다 주님 앞에 서서 이 땅에서의 삶에 대해 평가를 받는다고 성경은 분명하게 말씀하고 있다. 그 때 십자가의 죽음을 통해 우리에게 영원한 생명을 얻게 해주신 주님께 우리는 무엇을 말할 수 있을까? 

 

1) 천국살이의 핵심은 먹을 것과 입을 것에 대한 염려는 버리고, 하나님 나라를 위해서 사는 것이다. 

· 예수님께서는 육신의 생명을 위하여 먹을 것을 염려하지 말라고 말씀한다.(25절) 왜냐하면 이미 우리를 위해 자신의 아들을 희생시키신 하나님께서 아들의 생명보다 덜 소중한 것들을 아끼지 아니하실 것이기 때문이라고 한다. 

· 공중의 새들은 자신들이 먹을 것을 위해 심지도 않고 거두지도 않는다. 더구나 미래의 먹을 양식을 위해 창고에 저축해두지도 않는데 하나님이 먹이신다. (25절) 이렇게 공중의 새도 하나님이 먹이시는데 하물며 우리들을 위해 무엇을 아끼시겠느냐는 것이다.

· 먹을 것과 입을 것을 걱정하는 일은 이방인들이 하는 일이다. 그러나 하나님의 자녀가 된 자들에게는 그런 염려가 필요 없다. 그분께서 우리에게 필요한 것들을 공급하시기 때문이다. (32절)

· 지금 무엇인가 나에게 주어지지 않고 있다면, 그것이 사실은 나에게는 필요 없는 것이거나 아직 그것을 받을 때가 되지 않은 것이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 간절히 구할 때 하나님은 응답해 주실 때가 있지만 나중에 보면 그것이 나에게는 유익이 되는 것이 아니라 오히려 해가 되는 것이었음을 깨달을 날이 온다. 

*눈에 보이는 왕을 구하는 이스라엘에게 왕을 주신 하나님의 의도(삼상8:18) 

· 우리들은 싫든 좋든 삶의 문제들은 하나님께 맡기고, 오직 하나님께서 오늘도 우리에게 원하시는 삶을 살아드리고 있으면 필요한 것들은 하나님이 다 공급하신다.(33절)

 

2-1) 하나님 나라를 위한 삶은 먼저 내 안에 이미 임한 하나님 나라가 확장되어져 가게 하는 것이다. 

· 하나님의 나라란 하나님의 주권과 통치가 미치는 영역이다. 그러나 내 안에 하나님의 나라가 임했다고 해서 곧바로 내 삶에 하나님의 나라의 모습들이 나타나는 것은 아니다. 하나님의 나라를 구하라는 말은 내 삶에 하나님의 나라가 확장되어져 가게 하라는 말이다.   *나라(βασιλείαν/바실레이아)’ = '통치’ 

· 하나님의 나라가 이루어져 간다는 것은 먼저는 의와 평강과 희락이 물결처럼 내 안에 이루어져 가는 것이다.(롬14:7) 의의 반대는 불의, 죄악이다. 따라서 하나님의 나라가 내 안에 이루어진다면 실제로 내 삶에 하나님의 의가 나타나야 한다. 

· 그런 의미에서 날마다 우리의 삶이 예수님처럼 거룩하고 온전한 삶이 되도록 회개하는 일은 죽는 날 까지 계속되어야 한다. 그리고 이를 위해서 절대적으로 필요한 것은 성령님의 도우심이다. 오늘도 습관적인 죄에서 벗어나지 못하는 이유는 오직 성령님의 도우심을 간절히 구하지 않기 때문이다.(갈5:16)

· 또 하나는 세상이 주는 평강과는 다른 하나님이 주시는 평강을 누리는 것이다. 세상이 주는 평안은 환경에 의해 좌우되는 것이다. 그러나 주님이 주시는 평강은 환경의 변화에 상관없이 오는 평안이다. 마귀의 역사로 펼쳐진 상황들 앞에서 그분의 최종적인 승리를 붙들고 현재의 상황을 보지 않을 때 이루어지는 평안이다. 지금의 모든 상황도 그것이 좋은 상황이든 나쁜 상황이든 결국은 하나님의 선하신 뜻이 나를 통해 이루어져가는 과정으로 굳게 믿을 때 누려지는 것이다. 

 

2-2) 하나님 나라를 위한 삶은 하나님의 나라가 양적으로 확장되어가기를 함께 애쓰는 것이다. 

· 지금도 죽음의 절망 너머 천국의 소망이 있음을 한번도 들어 보지 못하고 여전히 죄와 심판의 두려움 가운데 살아가는 사람들이 있다. 그들이 답답한 삶을 살지 않도록, 무엇보다도 영원한 지옥 형벌을 받지 않도록 직접 선교 현장에 가서 복음 전할 일들을 해야 할 사람들이 있다. 

· 아니면 삶의 현장에서 계속해서 그 일을 위해 계속 기도할 수 있다. 또한 나의 물질을 드려 그 일이 되어지게 할 수 있다. 우리가 갖고 있는 모든 것들은 하나님이 주신 것임을 알 때 드리기를 힘쓸 수 있다. 그리고 그럴 때 하나님은 더 많은 것들로 더 많은 하나님의 나라의 일을 하게 하신다. 

· 하나님께서는 우리를 구원하신 후 금방 하나님의 나라에 데려가실 수 있다. 그리고 그것은 사실 슬프고 두려운 일이 아니다. 그 좋은 천국에 우리를 당장에라도 데려가지 않으시는 이유는 우리가 사람들을 하나님께로 돌이키는 데에 통로 역할을 하라는 것이다. *‘돈 잘 버는 법’이 아니라 ‘돈이 잘 벌리게 하는 법’ 

· 하나님의 나라를 왕성하게 이루어 가려면 선교 센터 같은 것을 내가 지어보겠다고 하나님께 약속을 하고, 또 그런 목표를 위해 살아가면 하나님은 그 선교 센터를 짓고도 남을 돈이 벌려지게 하신다.

 *‘가장 중요한 것들을 추구하라. 그리하면 너희에게 덜 중요한 것들도 주겠노라.(오리겐)

· 우리 그리스도인들에게 필요한 것은 언젠가는 썩어져 없어질 세상의 것들이 아니라, 영원한 하나님 나라를 위한 삶이다.(딤전6:17) 우리에게도 세상 살이는 피할 수 없다. 그러나 천국 살이와 연결되어 있는 세상 살이를 하면 오히려 염려와 근심이 없어진다. 

· 누가 봐도 될 것 같은 일들이 될 것이라 믿는 것은 믿음이 아니다. 여건이 안 좋아도 ‘하나님이 원하시는 일이라면 하나님이 되게 하실 줄로 믿습니다!’ 해야 믿음이다. 하나님의 나라를 위해 결단할 때 하나님께서 내 삶의 문제도 책임지실 줄로 믿고 살아갈 때, 하나님도 역사하신다. 

*’하나님이 우리 편 되어 달라고 기도하는 것이 아니라 우리가 하나님 편에 서게 해달라고 기도하시오’  -

 

학습 및 적용 문제:

1) 한 해 동안 하나님의 나라를 구하며 살 때 하나님은 삶의 필요를 채우실 것이라는 것을 철저히 믿고 살아왔는 지 돌아보고 새해에 대한 믿음의 결단을 나누어보자.

Worldly Living vs. Heavenly Living (Matthew 6:25–27, 31–33)

Scripture clearly teaches that after death, every one of us will stand before the Lord and have our life on this earth evaluated. At that moment, what could we possibly say to the Lord who granted us eternal life through His death on the cross?

 

1) The core of heavenly living is to let go of anxiety over what to eat and what to wear, and to live for the Kingdom of God.

Jesus tells us not to worry about food for our physical life (v.25). The reason is this: God, who already sacrificed His own Son for us, will not withhold things far less precious than His Son’s life.

The birds of the air do not sow or reap. They do not even store up food for the future in barns, yet God feeds them (v.26). If God feeds the birds of the air, how much more will He provide for us?

Worrying about what to eat and what to wear is what the Gentiles do. But those who have become God’s children do not need such anxiety, because He supplies what we need (v.32).

If something is not being given to me right now, then in truth it is either something I do not need, or it is not yet time for me to receive it. Even so, when we ask earnestly, God may answer—but later we may realize it was not for our good and would actually have harmed us.  *God’s intention in giving Israel a king (1 Samuel 8:18).

Whether we like it or not, we must entrust the problems of life to God and simply live the life He desires of us today. Then God will provide everything we need (v.33).

 

2-1) Living for the Kingdom means letting the Kingdom that has already come within me continue to expand.

The Kingdom of God is the realm where God’s sovereignty and rule are exercised. Yet even if the Kingdom has come into me, it does not automatically appear in my life right away. To “seek the Kingdom” means to let the Kingdom expand in my life.

 *“Kingdom” (βασιλεία / basileia) = “reign,” “rule.”

The Kingdom advancing within me means that righteousness, peace, and joy begin to be established in me like waves (Romans 14:17). The opposite of righteousness is unrighteousness—sin and wickedness. Therefore, if the Kingdom is being formed in me, God’s righteousness must become visible in my actual life.

In that sense, daily repentance—so that our lives may become holy and whole like Jesus—must continue until the day we die. And what is absolutely necessary for this is the help of the Holy Spirit. The reason we still cannot break free from habitual sin is that we do not earnestly seek the Spirit’s help (Galatians 5:16).

Another mark is enjoying God’s peace, which is different from the peace the world offers. The world’s peace depends on circumstances. But the peace the Lord gives comes regardless of changes in circumstances. It is a peace that is formed when we hold fast to God’s final victory in the face of situations spread by the enemy’s work, and refuse to be dominated by what we see in the present. Whether today’s situation seems good or bad, this peace is enjoyed when we firmly believe that all of it is a process through which God’s good will is being fulfilled through me.

 

2-2) Living for the Kingdom means laboring together for the Kingdom to expand in number.

Even now, there are people who have never once heard that beyond the despair of death there is the hope of heaven—people still living in fear of sin and judgment. So that they will not live in suffocating emptiness, and above all so that they will not suffer eternal punishment in hell, some must go directly to the mission field.

Or we can keep praying for that work in the midst of everyday life. We can also offer our resources so the work can be carried out. When we recognize that everything we have is given by God, we can devote ourselves to giving. And when we do, God enables us to do even more work for His Kingdom with even more resources.

After saving us, God could take us immediately into His Kingdom—and that would not be something sad or frightening. The reason He does not bring us to that wonderful heaven right away is because He wants us to serve as channels that turn people back to God.  *Not “how to make money well,” but “how to let money be made”

If you resolve to see the Kingdom flourish and make a promise to God—such as committing to build a missions center—and live toward that goal, God will cause you to earn more than enough to build that missions center.  *“Pursue the most important things, and the less important things will be given to you as well.” (Origen)

What Christians need is not the things of this world that will someday rot away, but a life for the eternal Kingdom of God (1 Timothy 6:17). We cannot avoid living in this world. Yet when our worldly living is connected to heavenly living, anxiety and worry actually begin to disappear.

Believing that something will happen because it “obviously should work out” is not faith. Faith is saying, even when conditions are unfavorable, “If this is what God desires, I believe God will make it happen.” When we decide for the sake of God’s Kingdom, and live trusting that God will also take responsibility for the problems of our lives, God works.  We do not pray, “God, be on our side,” but rather, “Let us stand on God’s side.”
