믿음의 시험이 올 때 (창22:1-4)

 

· 성도들이 겪게 되는 시험에는 두 가지가 있다. 먼저는 사탄이 주는 유혹의 시험이다. 때로는 사람들이 좋아하는 것들, 예를 들면 돈이나 육체적인 쾌락, 명예 등을 가지고 성도들을 유혹한다. 그래서 교회를 멀리하게 하고, 결국은 하나님을 떠나 살도록 하는 것이다.

· 또 하나는 하나님이 주시는 믿음의 연단으로서의 시험이다. 그 시험은 때로 건강의 위기로, 경제적인 어려움으로 올 수도 있다. 또 간절히 바랐던 것들이 이루어지지 않게 되는 것일 수 있다. 하나님은 그 시험 앞에 우리가 연약함을 인정하고 겸손히 하나님께 무릎 꿇게 하시려는 것이고, 어떤 상황에서도 끝까지 하나님을 신뢰하는 믿음을 세워 주시고자 하는 시험이다. 

 

1) 하나님은 아브라함의 믿음을 세우시고자 시험하셨다. 

· 하나님도 ‘네 사랑하는 아들 독자’라고 말씀하심으로 아브라함이 이삭을 얼마나 사랑하는 지를 잘 알고 계셨음을 알 수 있는데 그를 번제로 바치라고 하셨다.(2절) 오늘날 우리 삶에도 하나님은 이런 시험을 하실 때가 있다. 나에게 소중하게 생각되어서 절대 포기하고 싶지 않은 어떤 것, 그것을 하나님은 내어놓으라고 말씀하실 때가 있다. 이런 시험이 올 때 사실 우리의 믿음이 적나라하게 드러난다. 

· 재미있는 것은 이런 시험이 하나님의 은혜의 역사를 경험한 후에 온다는 것이다. 이제 막 신앙 생활을 시작하는 사람들에게 이런 시험을 주지는 않으신다. 하나님은 어느 정도 신앙생활을 했고, 나름대로 은혜가운데 살며, 심지어 이제는 주님을 위해 살겠다는 고백까지 하는 사람들에게 이런 시험을 주신다.    *아비멜렉이 화친을 청해온 사건 이후 경험한 시험

· 아브라함은 하나님의 요구에 묻지도 않고 따지지도 않고 그냥 순종했다. 즉각적으로 순종한 것도 놀랍지만 한 번 결정한 것을 변치 않고 계속적으로 유지했다는 것도 놀랍다. 심지어 이삭의 목에 칼을 내려치기 완전히 순종했다.(10,11절)   *'모리아' 산의 뜻 = '여호와가 공급하시다’ 

· 아브라함은 이런 하나님의 시험을 멋지게 통과했고 그 결과 하나님으로부터 자신의 믿음을 인정받았으며, 또 이미 이삭을 대신하여 숫양을 준비하셨던 여호와 이레의 하나님을 경험하게 되었다.(12,13절)     *방학 동안 갈 곳 없던 유학생이 결단할 때 경험케 하신 여호와 이레의 축복

 

2-1) 시험을 통과하기 위해서는 문제 상황을 보는 것이 아니라 하나님의 선하심과 인자하심을 신뢰해야 한다. 

· 이런 시험을 주시는 하나님이 이해가 안될 지라도 하나님이 주신 상황이라면 이 일을 통해 당신의 선한 뜻을 이루어가실 것을 믿는 것이다. 이 믿음만이 하나님이 주신 시험을 통과할 수 있게 한다. 

· 나무와 불은 있는데 번제할 양은 어디 있느냐고 묻는 이삭의 질문에 아브라함은 번제할 어린 양은 하나님이 자기를 위하여 친히 준비하실 것이라 대답한 것을 보면 그가 얼마나 하나님을 신뢰하고 있었는 지를 알 수 있다.(8절; 히11:17,19)

· 당장에 고통스럽고 골치 아픈 상황을 보고 두려워만 할 것이 아니다. 당장에 먹고 살기 힘들다고 일단 챙길 것부터 챙겨야겠다고 할 일이 아니다. 하나님이 친히 준비하신 시험이면 하나님이 친히 풀어갈 것이라는 믿음을 가지고 하나님을 바라보아야 한다. 하나님은 우리가 상상할 수 없는 계획을 갖고 계시기 때문이다.(시139:17)     *몽골 사람들의 시력이 보통 5..0인 이유

· 사람이 하늘에서 떨어진다고 다 죽는 것 아니다. 등에 낙하산이 메어져 있으면 안 죽는다. 그 낙하산이 바로 주님이시다. 주님을 의지하면서 떨어지면 오히려 자연의 아름다움을 구경하면서 떨어질 수 있다.     *175명의 와이엠 가족 캠프에 공급해주신 물고기 8,300마리

 

2-2) 하나님의 선하심과 자비하심을 신뢰한다면, 실제로 순종하는 일이 필요하다. 

· 그동안 마음을 정하지 못하고 결정하지 못했던 것들을 결단하고 실천해볼 때 여호와 이레의 축복을 경험한다. 머리로만 동의해서는 하나님의 축복을 경험하지 못한다.(신28:2)

· 사르밧 과부가 먹을 것이 없어서 남은 음식 먹고 죽으려고 할 때 엘리야 선지자가 와서 먼저 나에게 상을 차리라고 말할 수 있었던 이유는 그 자신이 그릿 시냇가에서 순종할 때 공급하시는 하나님을 경험했기 때문이다.(왕상17장)

· 하나님의 말씀은 이성을 초월한다. 사람의 생각으로 하면 아브라함이 이삭을 바치는 것은 합당치 않다. 그러나 아브라함은 어리석기 짝이 없어 보이는 일일지라도 말씀대로 순종했다. 대충 하나님과 타협하면서 ‘여기까지입니다’라고 말한 것이 아니라 완전하게 순종했다. 그리고 여호와 이레의 역사를 경험한 것이다.    *전도한 후 근처 다른 교회로 보내드렸을 때 하나님이  두 분을 보내주신 사건

· 내가 주님을 위해서 희생하는 듯 손해 보는 듯 하지만 결코 그것은 손해 보는 것이 아니라 나에게 배가 되어서 축복으로 돌아온다는 것을 알아야 한다. 그 축복을 받아 누리는 것은 내 욕심을 포기하고 말씀대로 순종하는 것이다. 주님을 위해서라면 나의 가장 소중한 것이라도 포기할 수 있을 때 이런 여호와 이레의 축복을 누릴 수 있게 된다.

 

학습 및 적용 문제:

1) 아브라함의 순종하는 믿음을 즉각 순종, 계속 순종, 절대 순종 차원에서 설명해보라. 

2) 지난 날 믿음의 시험을 잘 통과했을 때 경험케 되었던 여호와 이레의 축복들을 나누어보고, 이제 지금 상황에서 내가 선교적 삶을 살아내기 위해 결단할 것들이 무엇인지 나누어보자. 특별히 오이코스를 중심으로 세상을 섬길 수 있는 구체적인 생각들을 나누어보라.

When the Test of Faith Comes (Genesis 22:1–4)

 

· Believers face two kinds of tests. The first is the test of temptation from Satan. At times Satan uses the very things people desire — money, physical pleasure, honor — to entice believers. The goal is to draw them away from the church and, in the end, to make them live apart from God.

· The other is the test God gives as a refining of faith. This test may come as a health crisis or financial hardship. It may also come in the form of something you longed for deeply not being granted. Through such trials, God leads us to acknowledge our weakness, to kneel humbly before Him, and to build in us a faith that trusts Him to the end, in any circumstance.

 

1)God tested Abraham in order to establish his faith.

· God said, “your son, your only son, whom you love,” which shows that God knew exactly how deeply Abraham loved Isaac. And yet God told him to offer Isaac as a burnt offering. (v.2) God at times brings a similar test into our lives. There are things we consider precious — things we absolutely do not want to surrender. And yet God may say, “Lay that down.” When such a test comes, our true faith is exposed without disguise.

· Notice something important: this kind of test comes after someone has already experienced God’s grace. God does not usually give this kind of test to someone who has only just begun spiritual life. He gives it to someone who has walked with Him for some time, who has tasted grace, and who is now even saying, “I want to live for the Lord.”

*The test Abraham faced came after the event where Abimelech approached him seeking peace.

· Abraham did not argue. He did not debate. He simply obeyed. Not only did he obey immediately — which is remarkable — he held to that obedience without wavering. He carried that obedience all the way to the moment of raising the knife over Isaac’s neck. (vv.10–11)

*Meaning of “Moriah”: “The LORD will provide.”

· Abraham passed this test of God in a beautiful way. As a result, his faith was acknowledged by God. And he came to know “Jehovah Jireh,” the LORD who had already prepared a ram to take Isaac’s place. (vv.12–13)

*The blessing of Jehovah Jireh experienced by a student who had nowhere to stay over summer break but chose to trust and obey.

 

2-1) In order to pass the test, we must look not at the problem itself, but at the goodness and lovingkindness of God.

· Even if we do not understand why God would allow such a test, if it is a situation given by God, we believe that through it He is working out His good purpose. Only this faith enables us to pass the test that comes from God.

· When Isaac asked, “The fire and the wood are here, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” Abraham replied, “God Himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering.” (v.8; Hebrews 11:17,19) This shows how completely Abraham trusted God.

· The point is not to stare only at the pain of the moment and tremble in fear. It is not to say, “Life is hard right now; I need to protect my interests first.” If this is a test God Himself has prepared, then we look to God with the confidence that God Himself will also resolve it. God holds plans beyond anything we can imagine. (Psalm 139:17)

· A person does not die simply because they fall from the sky. If a parachute is fastened to their back, they live. That parachute is the Lord. If you depend on Him as you fall, you can even look around and take in the beauty of creation on the way down. *God provided 8,300 fishes for 175 people at the YM family camp.

 

2-2) If we trust in God’s goodness and mercy, then real obedience must follow.

· When we finally make a decision about the things we have put off — the things we could not decide and have delayed — and actually act on that decision, we experience the blessing of Jehovah Jireh. Agreement in our head alone does not bring us into God’s blessing. (Deuteronomy 28:2)

· When the widow at Zarephath had nothing left and was preparing to eat her last meal and die, the prophet Elijah told her, “First make something for me.” Elijah could speak that way because he himself had already experienced God’s provision at the brook Kerith when he obeyed. (1 Kings 17)

· God’s word surpasses human reasoning. From a human point of view, Abraham offering Isaac makes no sense. But Abraham obeyed the word even when it looked utterly foolish. He did not negotiate with God and say, “This is as far as I can go.” He obeyed completely. And he experienced the work of Jehovah Jireh.

*After sharing the gospel with someone and then sending them to another nearby church instead of keeping them for ourselves, God sent two people to us in return.

· Sometimes it looks as if we are sacrificing for the Lord and taking a loss. Yet in truth, it is not loss. It comes back multiplied as blessing. We enter into that blessing when we lay down our selfish desire and obey the word. When we are willing to offer even what is most precious to us for the Lord’s sake, we begin to live in the blessing of Jehovah Jireh.

 

 

 

 

Reflection and Application

1)Explain Abraham’s obedient faith in three dimensions: immediate obedience, sustained obedience, and absolute obedience.

2)Share specific moments in your past when you passed a test of faith and experienced the blessing of Jehovah Jireh. Then, in light of your current situation, talk together about concrete decisions you will make to live a missional life. Especially focus on your “oikos” — the circle of people God has already placed around you — and discuss specific, practical ways to serve the world through them.
