축복의 통로가 되는 복 (창12:1-3)

   

· 성경의 약속은 옛 약속(구약)이든 새 약속(신약)이든 그 내용은 같다. ‘나는 너희의 하나님이 될 것이며, 너희는 내 백성이 될 것이라’는 것이다. 하나님께서 은혜 베푸셔서 하나님의 백성이 되는 일을 통해 여호와께서 하나님이신 것을 알게 하시겠다는 것이다. 이 약속이 처음으로 구체적인 약속의 형태로 이루어진 것이 바로 아브라함과의 언약이다. 

 

1) 하나님께서는 먼저 아브라함에게 이 약속을 하시기 전에 그를 부르셨다. 

· 하나님의 약속이 이루어지는 과정에서 필연적으로 나타나는 현상은 무엇인가 의지하고 싶고, 있으면 마음 편한 무엇인가를 떠나게 하는 것이다. 아브라함의 경우는 정든 땅 갈대아 우르와 부요하게 살 수 있었던 하란 땅을 떠나는 것이었고, 아버지 데라가 떠나는 것이었다. 

· 하나님께서 아브라함을 가나안 땅으로 부르신 이유는 한 마디로 복을 주시기 위해서 였다.(2절) 여기서 아브라함에게 주신 복은 크게 두 가지이다. 먼저는 아브라함이 하나님의 통치를 직접적으로 받는 신정 국가인 이스라엘의 머리가 되는 축복이었다. 

*’큰 민족(לְגוֹי גָּדוֹל/ 르 고이 가돌) = 위대한(great) 민족 = 신정 국가 이스라엘

· 아브라함이 ‘믿음의 조상’이라는 말은 그가 믿음이 좋다는 말이 아니라 믿음으로 말미암아 하나님 나라 백성이 될 수 있는 일이 아브라함으로부터 시작되었다는 말이다.  

*‘아브람(אַבְרָם)’은 ‘존귀한 아버지’ 이고,  ‘아브라함(אַבְרָהָם)’은 ‘많은 민족들의 아버지’ 

· 하나님이 아브라함에게 주신 또 하나의 복은 그를 통해 여호와의 축복이 세상에 전해지는 통로가 되는 복이었다.(2b절) 이 복에 대한 설명은 3b절의 말씀 가운데 더 자세하게 나와 있는데, 아브라함의 후손으로 오실 예수 그리스도께서 인류의 죄를 대신하여 십자가에서 죽으심으로 모든 인류의 죄의 문제를 해결하게 될 것을 말한 것이다.

*너로 말미암아(‘בְּךָ(bekhā/베카) = 아브라함 안에서 = 아브라함의 후손으로 태어날 그리스도를 통해

 

2) 하나님의 자녀가 되는 축복을 얻는 자들을 통해 세상 사람들이 복을 얻게 된다. 

· 4복음서의 마지막은 복음 전파의 사명에 대해 언급하고 있다.(마28:19,20; 막16:15; 눅24:43-45; 요20:21) 이 사명은 예수님의 12제자 뿐 아니라 모든 그리스도인들에게도 동일하게 주어진 것이다. 성령을 보내주신 목적도 그저 성령의 도우심을 통해서 거룩하게 살라고 보내주신 것이 아니라 땅끝까지 그리스도의 증인이 되라고 보내주신 것이다.(행1:8)

 

2-1) 축복의 통로로 살기 위해서는 먼저 모이기를 힘써야 한다. 

· 모이기를 힘쓰지 않으면서 흩어져서 복의 통로 역할은 할 수 없다. 그런 의미에서 교회가 가장 먼저 힘써야 할 일은 예배다. 예배에 실패하는 자가 흩어져서 세상 가운데 그리스도로 말미암는 축복을 전할 수 없기 때문이다. 무엇보다도 그 자신의 삶이 온전해 질 수 없다. 

· 예배를 소홀히 한다면 그 이유는 자신이 그리스도의 사랑에 대한 확신이 없든 지, 아니면 교회나 사람에 실망하여 예배에 가지 않는 것이다. 그리스도의 사랑을 확신하지 못하는 사람은 세상에 예수님의 사랑을 전할 수 없다. 또한 교회에서 상처를 받았거나 교회에 대한 신뢰를 갖지 못해서 예배에 참석하지 않는 사람들은 그리스도의 사랑을 전할 실력이 없는 사람이다. 교회 안에 있는 연약한 지체 하나 감당 못하는 사람은 세상의 악한 사람들을 감당할 수 없기 때문이다. 

· 또한 모여서 예배에 힘쓸 때 하나님이 공급하시는 능력과 지혜로 덧입혀 질 수 있고, 그래야 세상에서 맡겨진 사명을 감당할 수 있다. 그리스도인들은 예배를 통해 한 주간 살아갈 힘을 공급받기 때문이다. 한 주의 시작이 일요일인 이유는 주일날 예배를 통해 은혜를 받아야 한 주를 살아갈 수 있기 때문이다. 

*좋은 점수를 받기 보다는 예배를 중요하게 생각했을 때 주신 축복

 

2-2) 축복의  통로로 사는 것은 그리스도의 사랑을 세상에 증거하는 것이다.

· 예수님이 제자들에게 하신 선교 명령과 사랑의 계명은 사실 하나다. 선교 명령이 사실은 사랑의 계명으로 이루어지기 때문이다. 아무리 입술로 그리스도의 십자가의 은혜를 전해도 그 사랑을 맛보지 않으면 그리스도를 받아들일 수 없다. 

· 가족간에 아무도 안하려 하는 것 내가 먼저 하고, 내가 먼저 돈 내고, 내가 먼저 희생하면서 십자가의 복음을 전해야 예수님이 어떤 분인지 알 것 같다고 말하게 된다.

· 그런 의미에서 내가 뭔가 당했다 싶을 때, 내가 뭔가 손해보았다 싶을 때가 그리스도의 사랑을 나타내 줄 수 있는 절호의 기회라는 것을 기억해야 한다. 당연히 화를 낼 수 있고, 당연히 나의 주장을 할 수 있는 상황에서도 기꺼이 당해주고, 기꺼이 손해봐 줄 때 비로서 사람들은 그리스도의 사랑을 보기 때문이다. 

*’세월을 아끼라(엡5:16)’는 말은 모든 순간을 아가페 사랑의 기회로 삼으라는 뜻

The Blessing of Becoming a Channel of Blessing (Genesis 12:1–3)

 

· The promise of the Bible is the same, whether it is the old covenant (Old Testament) or the new covenant (New Testament): “I will be your God, and you will be my people.” God grants grace and makes us His people so that we may come to know that the Lord is truly God. The first time this promise was given in a concrete form was in God’s covenant with Abraham.

 

1) Before giving this promise to Abraham, God first called him.

· One essential aspect in the process of God's promises being fulfilled is that He calls people to leave behind the things they naturally want to rely on or feel secure with. For Abraham, this meant leaving his familiar homeland of Ur of the Chaldeans and the prosperous land of Haran, as well as his father Terah.

· The reason God called Abraham to the land of Canaan was simply to bless him (v.2). There were two main blessings given to Abraham. First, he was blessed to become the head of Israel, the theocratic nation directly ruled by God.

*A great nation (לְגוֹי גָּדוֹל / le goy gadol) = great nation = the theocratic nation of Israel

· Calling Abraham ‘the father of faith’ does not mean he had exceptional faith, but rather that the way to become God's people through faith began with him.

*Abram (אַבְרָם)= exalted father, Abraham(אַבְרָהָם) = father of many nations

· Another blessing God gave Abraham was that he would become the channel through which the blessing of the Lord would be spread to the world (v.2b). This is more clearly explained in verse 3b, where it refers to Jesus Christ, who would come as Abraham’s descendant and die on the cross to solve the problem of humanity’s sin.

*Through you (בְּךָ / bekha) = in Abraham = through Christ who would be born from Abraham’s lineage

 

2) Through those who receive the blessing of becoming God’s children, the people of the world will also be blessed.

· The endings of the four Gospels all mention the mission of proclaiming the Gospel (Matt. 28:19–20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:43–45; John 20:21). This mission was not only given to Jesus' 12 disciples but also to all Christians. The purpose of sending the Holy Spirit was not just to help us live holy lives, but to empower us to become Christ’s witnesses to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8).

 

2-1) To live as a channel of blessing, we must first be committed to gathering together.

· We cannot scatter and serve as channels of blessing without first striving to gather. In that sense, the most important task for the church is worship.

Those who fail in worship cannot go out and share the blessing of Christ with the world, nor can they live whole lives themselves.

· If someone neglects worship, it is either because they are not assured of Christ's love or they are disappointed in the church or people and thus avoid worship. Those who are not assured of Christ’s love cannot share it with the world. Those who avoid worship due to being hurt by the church or mistrusting it are not ready to share the love of Christ. If someone cannot handle even a weak member in the church, they won’t be able to handle the wicked people of the world.

· Furthermore, when we gather and focus on worship, we are clothed with the strength and wisdom that God provides, which enables us to fulfill our mission in the world. Christians draw strength for the week through worship. The reason the week starts on Sunday is because we receive grace through Sunday worship, which enables us to live the rest of the week.

 

2-2) Living as a channel of blessing means bearing witness to Christ’s love in the world.

· The missionary command Jesus gave His disciples and His command to love are essentially the same. The mission command is fulfilled through the command to love. No matter how much we speak of the grace of the cross, unless people taste that love, they cannot accept Christ.

· When no one in the family wants to do something, take the initiative. Pay first. Sacrifice first. That’s how we testify to the Gospel of the cross and help others understand who Jesus is.

*The first defector-pastor from North Korea came to believe in Jesus through the sacrificial love of a Korean-Chinese pastor.

· In that sense, we must remember that the moments when we feel wronged or taken advantage of are the best opportunities to show Christ’s love. Even in situations where we are fully justified to be angry or assert ourselves, when we willingly endure and suffer loss, people will finally see Christ’s love.        *The meaning of Eph. 5:16
