가인에게 표를 주신 하나님 (창4:1-8)

 

· 창세기 1장부터 12장까지는 성경 전체의 서론에 해당한다. 3장의  타락한 첫 사람 아담에게 가죽 옷을 입히신 사건, 4장의 살인한 가인에게 표를 주신 사건, 6장에서 9장까지는 홍수 심판 후에 노아에게 방주를 짓게 한 사건, 그리고 11장과 12장에서 바벨탑을 쌓던 사람들을 흩으신 후 아브라함을 통해 자기 백성들을 모으시는 사건 등은 인류 역사의 큰 흐름을 나타내고 있다. 창조와 타락과 심판과 구속이라고 하는 성경적인 세계관을 가장 잘 보여주고 있다.  

 

1) 인류 최초의 가정에서 최초의 살인 사건이 일어났다. 

· 가인이 아벨을 ‘쳐죽였다’고 할 때 ‘쳐죽인다’는 말은 ‘죽일 의도를 가지고 때리다’라는 뜻인데, 이것은 가인의 마음이 확고 부동하게 사단에게 정복당해 있음을 증거해 주는 말이다. 

·  가인이 아벨을 죽인 것은 결코 처음부터 의도한 것이 아니었다. 그러나 그가 자기 동생을 죽이는 죄를 범하게 된 이유는 철저히 자신을 비우지 않았기 때문이다. 다시 말하면 하나님께 산 제물로 자신의 삶을 드리지 않았기 때문이다.          

   *그리스도인의 삶의 첫 단추는 산 제사 (롬12:1)

· 하나님께서 가인의 제사를 받지 않으신 이유는 그가 하나님을 온전히 신뢰하는 마음으로, 다시 말하면 믿음으로 드리지 않았기 때문이다. (히11:4) 그것은 하나님께서 그의 제사를 받지 않으셨을 때 분노했던 것을 통해 알 수 있다.(5절)

·  진정한 제사는 우리가 죄인이라는 사실과 그럼에도 불구하고 용서하신 하나님의 사죄의 은총에 대한 깊은 감사가 있는 상태로 드려야 한다. 가인은 당장에 자기가 하는 일에 대해 하나님이 알아주기를 바라고, 제사를 드리는 촛점이 하나님께 있지 않고 자기 자신에게 있었던 것이다. 

· 오늘날 현대 교회의 가장 큰 문제점도 성도들의 신앙 생활이 자기 중심이라는 것이다. 열심히 봉사하고 헌금도 하지만 결국 그 중심에는 예수님이 있는 것이 아니라 자기가 있다. 그래서 봉사를 해도 자기 생각대로 하고, 자기 생각대로 뭔가가 진행이 되지 않으면 불평하고 원망하고, 그래서 결국은 공동체를 파멸로 이끈다.     *종이 비행기를 

 

2) 가인의 죄에 대해 하나님은 심판하신다. 

· 땅에서 밭을 갈아도 소산이 없을 것이며, 결국 땅에서 유리하며 다니게 될 것이라고 말한다.(11,12절)    *‘효력(코아흐)' = 채소류와 곡물, ‘유리하다’=’계속 도망치다’ 

· 하나님의 뜻과는 상관없이 자기 중심적인 생각 가운데 육신을 좇아 살면 처음에는 뭔가 잘 되어가는 듯하지만 결국에는 그 파멸과 고생이 기다리고 있다.(롬8:5,6)     *사명을 떠나 배를 탄 요나의 결국

 

3) 하나님께서는 땅에서 유리하며 죽임을 당해 마땅한 가인을 살려주신다.

·  ‘하나님이 가인에게 표를 주셨다’는 것은 ‘하나님께서 어떤 형태로든 가인에게 표시를 해두었다’는 말이다.  *אוֹת לְקַ֔יִן יְהוָה֙ ‘וַיָּ֤שֶׂם (바야쎔 아도나이 르카인 오트)  = ‘그리고 두었다. 여호와께서, 가인에게, 표를’

·  하나님이 두신 표는 이스라엘 백성들이 애굽에서 빠져 나올 때 모든 첫 태생이 죽는 장자 재앙을 면하도록 집의 문설주에 발랐던 것과 같은 표시일 것이다.  문설주에 발라진 ‘어린 양의 피’는 나중에 죄로 말미암는 사망에서 건짐 받을 수 있도록 십자가에서 죽으신 ‘예수 그리스도의 피’를 상징하는 것이었다. 

· 가인처럼 죽어 마땅한 죄를 저지른 인생들을 하나님께서는 긍휼히 여겨 주셔서, 그가 어떤 죄를 지었든지, 심지어는 가인처럼 살인죄를 지었든지 상관없이 예수 그리스도의 피가 발라져 있기만 하면, 누구든지 그 죄가 용서되어지고 죽임을 당하지 않게 하신 것이다. 

· 이 땅에 살면서 항상 잊지 않아야 하고 감사해야 할 것은 이 은혜이다. 나의 형편이 어떠하든지, 심지어 내 마음이 어떠하든지, 나를 통해 세상에 그리스도의 사랑을 나타내며 사는 것이다.

· 선교적 교회가 되려면 모든 성도들이 나를 철저히 죽여야 한다. 내가 부인되지 않으면 절대로 선교적인 삶을 살 수 없다. 그리스도의 은혜에 합당한 삶을 살아낼 수 없다.

God Who Put a Mark on Cain (Genesis 4:1–8)

 

· Genesis chapters 1 to 12 serve as the introduction to the entire Bible. The event in chapter 3 where God clothed the fallen first man, Adam, with garments of skin; the event in chapter 4 where God put a mark on Cain, the murderer; the event in chapters 6 to 9 where Noah built the ark after the flood judgment; and the event in chapters 11 and 12 where God scattered the people building the Tower of Babel and gathered His own people through Abraham — all of these depict the grand flow of human history. They most clearly demonstrate the biblical worldview of creation, fall, judgment, and redemption.

 

1) The first murder occurred in the first human family.

· When it says Cain “struck and killed” Abel, the word means “to strike with the intent to kill.” This shows that Cain’s heart was firmly and completely conquered by Satan.

· Cain did not initially intend to kill Abel. However, the reason he ended up committing murder was that he did not empty himself completely. In other words, he did not offer his life to God as a living sacrifice.  *The first step in a Christian’s life is to be a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1)

· The reason God did not accept Cain’s offering was because he did not offer it with a heart of full trust in God — that is, by faith (Hebrews 11:4). This is evident from Cain’s anger when God did not accept his offering (verse 5).

· A true sacrifice must be offered with the deep awareness that we are sinners and with deep gratitude for God’s grace of forgiveness despite our sin. Cain wanted God to acknowledge his deeds immediately, and the focus of his offering was not on God but on himself.

· One of the greatest problems in today’s modern church is also that believers’ faith lives are self-centered. They serve diligently and give offerings, but at the core is not Jesus but themselves. Therefore, even when they serve, they do it according to their own thoughts, and if things do not go as they wish, they grumble and complain, ultimately leading the community to destruction.

 

2) God judges Cain’s sin.

· God said that even if Cain works the ground, it will yield no produce, and he will become a restless wanderer on the earth (verses 11, 12). *‘Yield’ (koach) = vegetables and grains; ‘restless’ = to be constantly on the run

· If one lives according to the flesh in self-centered thoughts apart from God’s will, things may seem to go well at first, but ultimately, destruction and suffering await (Romans 8:5,6).

3) God spares Cain, who deserved to die as a wanderer on the earth.

· “God put a mark on Cain” means “God set a sign on Cain in some form.”  *וַיָּשֶׂם יְהוָה אוֹת לְקַיִן (vayyasem Adonai leqayin ot) = “And the LORD put a mark on Cain”

· The mark God placed was likely similar to the sign that spared the Israelites’ firstborns from death during the plague in Egypt — the blood of the lamb on the doorposts. The lamb’s blood on the doorposts later symbolized the blood of Jesus Christ shed on the cross to save us from death due to sin.

· God, in His mercy, spares those who, like Cain, deserve to die because of their sins — no matter what sin they have committed, even murder like Cain. If only they are covered by the blood of Jesus Christ, anyone’s sin can be forgiven, and they will not be put to death.

· What we must never forget and always be thankful for as we live on this earth is this grace. No matter our circumstances or even our inner state, we must live to reveal Christ’s love to the world through us.

· To become a missional church, every believer must thoroughly die to themselves. If we are not denied, we can never live a missional life or live a life worthy of the grace of Christ.
