능히 견고케 하는 복음 (롬16:25-27)

 

·삶의 무게에 눌려 아무런 소망도 기쁨도 없으면, 기쁨과 평안한 마음보다는 왠지 모를 염려와 두려움이 있다면, 감사와 사랑의 마음 보다는 원망과 분노의 마음이 많다면, 가장 먼저 복음을 다시 들어야 한다.

·다른 것으로 우리의 마음을 강하게 하려 하지 말아야 한다. 다른 것으로 위로 받고 힘을 얻으려 하지 말아야 한다. 결국 세상의 것들과 사람의 말들은 잠시 동안만 우리를 위로해 줄 뿐이다. 우리의 삶을 근본적으로 바꾸어 놓는 것은 복음이기 때문이다. 

 

1) 복음은 우리를 견고케 하는 능력이 있다. 

·복음의 능력은 우리를 견고케 하는 것으로 나타난다. 여기서 ‘견고케 된다’는 단어는 원어로 ‘스테리조’라는 단어를 쓴다. 그 뜻은 ‘새로운 회심자를 양육하고 튼튼하게 하는 것’이라는 말이다. 

·이제 처음 예수를 알아 이제 막 신앙생활을 시작하는 사람들은 예수님이 어떤 분이시고, 우리는 그분을 통해 어떤 은혜와 축복가운데 있는 가를 잘 모른다. 그러다 보니 신앙 생활을 해도 기쁨이나 감격가운데 하는 것이 아니라, 그저 마지 못해서 하게 되는 경우가 종종 있다. 

·그랬던 분들이 시간이 지나면서 예수님을 더 깊이 알게 되고, 그 예수로 말미암아 어떤 은혜와 축복가운데 있는가를 알게 될 때, 그들의 삶은 바뀌어지기 시작한다. 말이 바뀌고 얼굴색이 바뀌어진다.

2) 우리를 능히 견고케 하는 복음은 구체적으로 ‘그리스도에 대한 전파’라고 한다. 

·바울은 로마서의 시작이나 끝을 동일한 말씀으로 시작하고 맺고 있다. 그것은 하나님의 아들이신 예수가 우리들의 그리스도가 되셨다는 것이다.(롬1:2)  ‘그리스도’라는 말은 ‘기름부음을 받은 자’라는 의미를 담고 있다.           *’크리오(기름을 붓다)’에서 파생한 ‘크리스토스’

예수님이 기름부음을 받은 자라는 말은 세 가지의 의미가 있다. 그것은 예수님이 제사장이요, 왕이시고, 선지자이심을 의미한다.  

 

2-1) 제사장이신 예수는 자신의 몸을 속죄 제물로 삼아 백성들의 죄가 용서되게 하셨다. 

·구약의 제사장들이 하는 역할은 백성들로 하여금 하나님께 죄사함을 받을 수 있도록 제사를 드려주는 것이다. 예수님이 제사장이라는 의미는 예수님 자신이 스스로 제물이 되셔서 백성들의 죄를 용서함 받게 하신 분이라는 의미이다. 

·오늘날 우리는 스스로의 힘으로는 도저히 죄의 문제를 해결할 수 없다. 우리는 하나님 앞에 죄없다 말할 수 없고, 그것은 우리가 예수를 믿고 나서도 마찬가지이다.     *정약용이 ‘경세유표’에서 한 말

·복음이 우리를 견고하게 한다는 것은 이렇게 예수님의 대속의 은혜를 기억하게 함으로 먼저는 그 은혜에 감사하게 하고 함부로 남을 판단하거나 정죄하지 않게 만들기 때문이다. 

 

2-2) 예수가 그리스도이신 것은 그분이 우리의 왕이시라는 의미이다. 

·왕의 원래 목적은 자기 백성을 보호하는데 있었다. 왕이라는 단어가 히브리어로는 ‘멜렉’인데 그 뜻이 ‘보호하는 자’라는 뜻이다. 따라서 예수가 그리스도이신 것은 그분이 왕의 권세를 가지고 자기 백성들을 보호하시는 분이시라는 말이다. 

·왕이신 예수는 사망을 가지고 장난을 치는 사탄을 이기셨다. 십자가에 죽으신 후 그 죽음 가운데 머물러 있는 것이 아니라 삼일 만에 부활하심으로 말미암아 죽음을 이기시고 사탄을 이기셨다.(골2:14)

·우리 성도들도 신앙 생활을 해가다 겪는 고통스러운 일들은 일차적으로는 사탄의 역사로 말미암아 생기는 것들이다. 그러나 이것은 우리로 하여금 더욱 하나님의 자녀 답게, 하나님의 나라의 왕자답게 살게 하려고 주시는 훈련이다.(롬8:19)  따라서 우리도 눈에 보여지는 대로 염려하고 두려워할 것이 아니라 이미 승리하신 주님을 붙들 때 그 승리에 동참할 수 있다. 

 

2-3) 예수님은 하나님의 뜻을 전달하는 선지자이시다. 

·이 세상의 주인은 하나님이시다. 하나님은 오늘도 이 세상을 당신의 뜻 가운데 이끌어가신다. 그렇기 때문에 이 세상에서 가장 지혜로운 사람은 하나님의 지혜로 사는 사람이다.(고전2:9,10)

·오늘도 우리에게 선지자로 오신 주님은 우리에게 영으로 가르쳐주시기를 원하신다. 그런데 문제는 우리가 묻지 않는 것이다. 내 마음대로 하는 것이다. 사업 문제건 자식 문제건 주님께 묻지 않고 내 원하는 대로만 하려고 한다. (고전1:25) 그러나 선지자로오신 예수께 물을 때 복음의 능력이 나타난다. 

·때로는 하기 싫고 부담스러워도 그것이 주님이 원하시는 일이라면 결단하며 순종할 때 하나님은 그런 우리의 수고를 기억하신다. 그래서 결정적인 때에 호의(favor)를 베풀어주신다. 그럼으로 복음으로 무장하여 담대하게 주의 길을 걸어갈 때 우리 모두도 주님을 찬양하는 날이 오게 될 것이다. 

 

 

학습 및 적용 문제:

1) 복음의 내용은 결국 예수는 그리스도라는 말씀이다. 이 말의 의미가 무엇인지 세가지로 나누어서 설명해보라. 

2) 나는 지금 복음의 견고한 능력 가운데 살아가고 있는지 내가 체험한 복음은 어떤 복음이었는 지 자신을 삶을 나누어보라. 

The Gospel That Makes Us Strong (Romans 16:25–27)

·When life’s burdens weigh us down so much that we feel no hope or joy, when worry and fear seem to overpower our sense of peace and gladness, when our hearts are filled more with resentment and anger than with gratitude and love—then the first thing we must do is return to the gospel.

·We should not try to strengthen our hearts with anything else. We should not seek comfort or strength in anything else. In the end, the things of the world and the words of people can only provide momentary relief. Only the gospel has the power to fundamentally change our lives.

 

1) The Gospel Has the Power to Strengthen Us

·The power of the gospel is revealed in its ability to make us strong. The word used for “to strengthen” in the original text is sterizo, which means “to nurture and establish new converts.”

·New believers who are just starting their journey of faith often do not fully understand who Jesus is or the grace and blessings they have received through Him. As a result, they sometimes walk in faith not with joy and awe but reluctantly, as if it were a burden.

·However, over time, as they come to know Jesus more deeply and understand the grace and blessings they have in Him, their lives begin to change. Their words change, and even the expression on their faces changes. *Transformation of a North Korean defector who was a former special forces soldier

 

2) The Gospel That Strengthens Us Is Specifically the Preaching of Christ

·Paul begins and ends the book of Romans with the same truth: that Jesus, the Son of God, is our Christ (Romans 1:2). The term “Christ” means “the Anointed One,” derived from chrio (to anoint), leading to Christos.

·Jesus being the Anointed One carries three meanings: He is our High Priest, our King, and our Prophet.

 

2-1) As Our High Priest, Jesus Offered Himself as a Sacrifice for Our Sins

·In the Old Testament, the role of a priest was to offer sacrifices on behalf of the people so their sins could be forgiven. Jesus, as our High Priest, became the sacrifice Himself so that our sins could be forgiven.

·Today, we cannot resolve our sins by our own strength. We cannot stand before God and claim to be sinless—even after believing in Jesus.

·The gospel strengthens us by reminding us of Jesus’ redeeming grace, leading us to gratitude and preventing us from harshly judging or condemning others.

 

2-2) Jesus as the Christ Means He Is Our King

·The purpose of a king is to protect his people. In Hebrew, the word for king is melek, which means “protector.” Thus, when we say Jesus is the Christ, we are declaring that He is our King who protects His people with kingly authority.

·As our King, Jesus defeated Satan, who used death to torment us. He did not remain in the grave after dying on the cross, but rose again on the third day, defeating death and Satan (Colossians 2:14).

·The painful experiences we go through as believers are often the result of Satan’s attacks. But these trials are allowed by God to help us live more like His children and as princes of His kingdom (Romans 8:19). So instead of worrying and fearing based on what we see, we should hold on to our victorious Lord and share in His victory.

 

2-3) Jesus Is the Prophet Who Reveals God’s Will

·God is the true ruler of this world. He continues to guide the world according to His will. Therefore, the wisest people are those who live by God’s wisdom (1 Corinthians 2:9–10).

·Even today, the Lord comes to us as a prophet and desires to teach us by His Spirit. The problem is, we often don’t ask. We act on our own. Whether it’s business or family matters, we often don’t ask the Lord but just do what we want (1 Corinthians 1:25). But when we ask the Lord, the power of the gospel is revealed.

·Sometimes, even when something feels burdensome or undesirable, if it is the Lord’s will and we choose to obey, God will remember our effort. At the right time, He will show us His favor. So when we are equipped with the gospel and boldly walk in the Lord’s path, the day will come when we will all praise Him together.
