공공의 적을 이기는 법 (롬15:1-6)

 

·사람들에게는 누구에게나 ‘사적인 적(private enemy)’이 있다. 그러나 자신이 속한 공동체의 적인 ‘공공의 적(public enemy)’이 나타나면 그 공공의 적을 이겨내기 위해서라도 서로 연대해야 한다.   *양계초(粱溪超)의 신민론

·만약 공공의 적이 나타났는데도 여전히 공동체 안의 사적인 적대 관계에 집중하다 보면, 결국 공공의 적에 의해 그 공동체는 무너지게 되며, 그것은 결국 자신의 삶도 무너지게 하는 결과를 가져온다.      

 

1) 믿음이 강한 자가 믿음이 약한 자들의 약점을 감당하고자 할 때 공공의 적을 이길 수 있다. 

·오늘날 사탄은 사람들의 마음 속에 하나님을 멀리하게 하고, 하나님의 나라가 세워져 가는 것을 조직적으로 방해한다. 이를 위해 사탄이 가장 쓰는 방법은 공동체의 구성원들끼리 사적인 적대 관계에 집중하게 하는 것이다. 

·사실 우리의 적은 나와 생각이 다른 형제나 연약한 지체들이 아니다. 오늘도 어떤 사건들을 통해 사적인 적대 관계에 집중하게 하고 사람들의 마음을 황폐하게 해서 결국 점점 하나님을 멀리 하게 만드는 사탄이다. 

·그런데도 우리는 성도들 사이를 이간질 시키는 사탄의 역사를 분별하지 못한 채 자신도 모르게 같은 편을 향해 총부리를 겨눈다. 그리고 결국 이런 일들로 진을 뺀 나머지 정작 ‘공공의 적’과 싸워야 할 힘을 잃어버린다.

·바울은 교회가 ‘공공의 적’과의 전투에서 승리하기 위해서는 무엇보다도 믿음이 강한 자들의 역할이 중요하다고 말한다. 그리고 진정 믿음의 사람은 연약한 지체의 아픔과 약점을 이해하고 받아주는 사람이다. 

*’담당하다’ = ‘내 것으로 받아들인다,’ ‘대신 짐을 진다’

 

2-1) 믿음이 강한 자가 연약한 자를 받아줄 때 연약한 자들이 세워진다.

·형제의 약점을 담당해주는 일은 그 자체가 덕을 세우는 일인데, 그것이 결국은 그 연약한 지체를 세워내게 된다.  *‘덕을 세운다’=’build them up‘

·하나님을 떠난 인간들은 죄악된 본성으로 말미암아 서로에게 상처를 주고 서로를 힘들게 하는 말과 행동을 할 수 밖에 없다. 그런 지체의 연약함을 치유해내고 그의 영혼을 살려낼 수 있는 유일한 길은 오직 사랑이다.(벧전4:8)

·연약한 말과 행동을 하는 사람들은 그럴만한 이유가 있다. 그들의 아픔을 이해하고자 할 때 연약한 자의 약점을 감당해갈 수 있고, 그것은 곧 연약한 자들을 세우게 된다.    *전직 대통령의 집사의 말

 

2-2) 주님께서 우리의 연약함을 감당해주셨음을 알 때 우리 역시 연약한 자의 약점을 담당해줄 수 있다. 

·예수님은 하나님을 향하여 욕하고 거역하는 죄인들의 모든 조롱을 혼자 담당하셨다. 그리고 그 결과 오늘 우리가 믿음의 사람들이 되었다.

·그리스도께서도 우리의 기쁨을 위해 십자가의 고통과 부끄러움을 참으셨던 것을 생각하면 오늘 우리가 용납하지 못할 일은 없다. 사실 오늘 우리가 형제의 약점을 담당해주지 못하고, 쉽게 포기하는 이유는 바로 예수님의 십자가의 죽으심을 기억하지 못하기 때문이다.(히12:2)

2-3) 연약한 자의 약점을 담당해주는 것이 하나님의 영광을 나타낸다.

·그리스도를 본 받아 형제의 약점을 담당해주면, 그것이 우리 모두를 하나로 묶어주게 되고, 또한 그것이 결국은 하나님께 영광이 되어 나타난다.(5,6절) 

·연약한 자의 약점을 내가 담당해줌으로 마음이 하나되면 그것을 보고 그들은 우리 안에 있는 예수를 본다. 그리고 그것이 하나님께 영광 돌리는 것이다. 그래서 예수님도 항상 우리가 하나 되어야 함을 강조하셨다.(요17:21)       *‘하나님 나라의 큰 법도는 하나되는 것이다(크리소스톰)’

·하나님께 영광돌리는 삶을 위해서는 나 자신부터 하나 되기 위해 애쓰는 것이다. 그리고 그것은 형제가 아무리 연약해 보여도 그 형제의 연약함을 오히려 내가 감당해주려 하고, 그들을 기쁘게 하려는 자가 되는 것이다.  

 

학습 및 적용 문제:

1) 바울이 말하는 진정 믿음이 좋은 사람은 어떤 사람인가?(1,2절)

2) 믿음이 연약한 자를 믿음이 강한 자가 받아주어야 하는 이유가 무엇인지 오늘 말씀을 근거해서 세 가지를 말해보라. 

3) 나는 진정 믿음이 강한 사람인지, 그렇지 못하다면 오늘 말씀에 비추어 볼 때 어떤 부분들이 새로워져야 할 것인지 나누어보자. 

How to Overcome the Public Enemy (Romans 15:1-6)

 

·Everyone has a "private enemy" in their life. However, when a "public enemy" arises within the community, people must unite to overcome it.    *Liang Qi Chao (粱溪超) on the theory of the people’s nation

·If the community continues to focus on personal antagonisms even when a public enemy emerges, the community will eventually collapse under the weight of that enemy. This, in turn, will result in the collapse of their own lives as well.

 

1) The Strong in Faith Can Bear the Weaknesses of the Weak and Overcome the Public Enemy

·Today, Satan works to distance people from God in their hearts and systematically hinders the establishment of God's Kingdom. The method Satan uses most effectively is to cause members of a community to focus on personal hostilities.

·In reality, our enemies are not the brothers or weak members who think differently from us. Through various events today, Satan leads us to focus on personal hostilities, empties our hearts, and ultimately drives us further from God.

·Yet, without discerning the work of Satan that causes division among the believers, we unknowingly point our weapons at our own side. As a result, we lose the strength to fight against the "public enemy" because we are exhausted from these internal conflicts.

·Paul says that in order for the church to win in battle against the "public enemy," the role of those strong in faith is essential. Truly faithful people are those who understand and accept the pain and weaknesses of the weaker members.

*“To bear” means "to accept as my own" or "to carry someone else’s burden."

 

2-1) When the Strong in Faith Accept the Weak, the Weak Are Built Up

·Bearing the weakness of a brother is, in itself, an act of edification, and it ultimately builds up the weak member. “To edify” = “to build them up.”

·Fallen humans, because of their sinful nature, inevitably hurt each other through words and actions. The only way to heal the weakness of such a member and revive their soul is through love. (1 Peter 4:8)

·Those who speak and act weakly do so for a reason. When we seek to understand their pain, we can bear their weaknesses, and that will build them up.   *Words of a former president’s deacon.

 

2-2) When We Know That the Lord Has Borne Our Weaknesses, We Can Bear the Weakness of the Weak

·Jesus alone bore all the mockery and rebellion of sinners toward God. As a result, today we are able to be people of faith.

·When we think of how Christ endured the pain and shame of the cross for our joy, there is nothing today that we should not be able to accept. In fact, the reason we fail to bear the weaknesses of our brothers and easily give up is because we forget the death of Jesus on the cross. (Hebrews 12:2)

*The sister who was convicted of this after reflecting on Hebrews 12:2.

 

2-3) Bearing the Weaknesses of the Weak Reveals God’s Glory

·If we, following Christ, bear the weaknesses of our brothers, this will unite us as one, and it will ultimately bring glory to God. (Romans 15:5-6)

·When I bear the weaknesses of the weak and become one in heart with them, others will see Jesus in us. This brings glory to God. That’s why Jesus always emphasized that we must be one. (John 17:21)

*“The greatest principle in the Kingdom of God is unity.” (Chrysostom)

·To live a life that brings glory to God, we must strive to be united starting with ourselves. This means that no matter how weak a brother seems, I must bear his weakness and seek to make him happy.
