바울이 서바나로 간 까닭 (롬15:20-27)

 

·지구상에는 아직 예수의 이름 조차 들어보지 못한 사람들이 6,000여 종족이나 된다. 그들이 살고 있는 지역을 선교학 용어로 ‘10/40 window’ 라고 한다. 그들 대부분이 북위 10도에서 40도 사이에 위치하고 있기 때문이다. 

·하나님께서 예수님을 보내신 것은 우리들만의 죄를 위한 것이 아니라, 세상 모든 사람들의 죄를 위해 보내신 것이다. 하나님은 지금도 그들에게 예수 이름이 들려지기를 소망하고 계시며 이 일을 함께 할 동역자들을 찾고 계신다. 

 

1) 복음은 아직 예수의 이름을 들어보지 못한 곳에 우선적으로 전해져야 한다. 

·바울은 로마를 들렸다가 서바나로 가려 한다고 했다.(19,20절) 지구가 둥글다는 사실을 알지 못했던 당시의 서바나는 땅 끝 이었다. 바울은 땅끝까지 이르러 내 증인이 되리라는 말씀이(행1:8) 성취되도록 서바나로 가려 했던 것이다. 

·오늘 우리도 바울과 같은 동일한 비전을 가지고 살아야 한다. 그것이 이 땅에 살아 숨쉬는 궁극적인 이유이기 때문이다. 

·복음을 들었을 지라도 복음의 역사가 약하게 나타나는 곳에도 복음이 다시 전해져야 할 필요가 있다. 그러나 우선 순위를 따지자면 당연히 아직 듣지 못한 곳이 우선이다.     

·휄로쉽 교회의 5가지 선교 원칙(미전도 종족 선교, 교육 선교, 비즈니스 선교, 전문인 선교, 디아스포라 난민 선교)중에서 가장 먼저는 미전도 종족 선교이다. 이슬람권, 흰두권, 불교권의 미전도 지역에 교회가 세워지기를 기도하고 있다.

2) 복음은 각자 하나님께로 부터 받은 축복들을 사용함으로 전해질 수 있다. 

·바울은 로마를 지나 서바나로 간다고 하면서 로마 교인들에게 이 일에 함께 해주기를 구하고 있다.(24절) 영어 성경에는 이 부분이 ‘서바나로 가는 나의 여행에 너희가 도와주기를 바란다’고 되어 있다. 이 말은 자신이 서바나로 갈 때 필요한 물품들이나 필요한 재정적인 지원을 해달라는 말이다.      *‘I hope to have you assist me on my journey there’ (27절)

·우리 중에는 분명 세상 일 다 접어두고 선교지로 가야할 사람도 있을 것이다. 그러나 대부분의 성도들은 우리가 살고 있는 이 땅에서 선교적인 삶을 살아냄으로 선교를 할 수 있다. 

·그것은 우리가 선교지로 나가는 대신 이곳에서 선교지의 영혼들을 위해 기도하고, 또 선교사들이 실제적으로 선교를 할 수 있도록 물질로 돕는 것이다.

·기독교의 역사를 보면 하나님은 그 시대에 복음의 전파자로 사용하시는 나라들을 경제적으로 축복하셨다. 17,8세기에 세계를 주름잡았던 영국이 그랬고 오늘날의 미국이 그렇다. 지난 세기 동안 하나님이 미국을 축복하신 이유는 미국이 세계 선교에 힘써왔기 때문이다. *세계의 선교비나 구제비의 80%을 담당하고 있는 미국

·오늘날 우리가 어려움을 겪고 있다면 그 이유 중에 하나도 이런 하나님의 뜻을 잊어버리고 세상 사는 일에 집중하고 있기 때문일 수 있다. 하나님은 선교하는 교회와 개인을 축복하신다. 하나님이 분명 살아 계신다면 그러실 수 밖에 없다.

 

3) 복음을 위해 자기의 것을 드려야 하는 이유는 우리가 사랑의 빚을 지었기 때문이다.

·마케도냐 교회와 아가야 교회가 예루살렘 교회를 돕기 위해 헌금을 보낸 일은 그들이 영적으로 예루살렘 교회에 빚을 졌기 때문이었다.(27절) 

·오늘날 한국이 이렇게 영적으로나 경제적으로 부강한 나라가 된 것도 100여년 전에 우리를 위해 먼저 희생한 선교사들의 헌신이 있었기 때문이라는 것을 기억해야 한다.   

*토마스(Robert Jermain Thomas) 선교사의 죽음이 가져다 준 결과 (조미수호통상조약 11조) 

·조선의 근대화의 과정에서 많은 도움을 주었던 학교와 병원들이 다 서양 선교사들이 세운 것들이었다. 한국의 독립을 위해 애썼던 민족 대표 33인 중에 그리스도인이 16명 있었고 3.1 만세 운동 때문에 154명의 목사들이 감옥에 투옥되었고, 제암리 교회 같은 곳은 모든 교인들이 함께 불에 타 순교하기도 했다.     *양화진 선교사 묘역에 묻힌 어린 아이들 

·이제 우리가 받은 사랑을 또 다른 사랑이 필요한 자들에게 나누어주어야 한다. 그리고 그 일은 부스러기가 아닌 내가 가진 핵심으로 섬겨야 한다. 하나님은 자신의 가장 소중한 아들 예수 그리스도를 우리를 위해 희생하셨기 때문이다.

학습 및 적용 문제:

1) 바울이 서바나로 가려 한 까닭은 무엇이며, 그것을 통해 우리가 선교에 있어서 세워야 할 원칙은 무엇인지 말해보라.(20,23절)

2) 모두가 해외 선교사로 나가지는 않지만 선교에 동참할 수 있는 방법은 무엇인지, 또 왜 그래야 하는 지 말해보라.(24,27절)

3) 나는 현재 선교사의 삶을 어떻게 살아가고 있는 지 나누어보자. 혹 가는 선교사로서 사명은 없는 지, 나의 것들을 어떻게 하나님 나라를 위해 사용하고 있는 지 나누어보라.   

The Reason Paul Went to Spain (Romans 15:20-27)

·There are still about 6,000 people groups on earth who have never even heard the name of Jesus. The region where they live is referred to as the "10/40 window" in missiological terms because most of these groups are located between the 10th and 40th parallels.

·God sent Jesus not just for our sins but for the sins of all people in the world. God still desires that the name of Jesus be heard by them and is looking for partners to carry out this mission.

 

1) The Gospel must be delivered first to those who have never heard the name of Jesus.

·Paul said he planned to visit Rome and then go to Spain (Romans 15:19-20). At the time, Spain was considered the "ends of the earth," as people didn’t know the world was round. Paul aimed to fulfill the prophecy of Acts 1:8, where Jesus said His witnesses would be sent to the ends of the earth.

·Today, we must live with the same vision as Paul. This is the ultimate purpose for us living on this earth.

·Even if people have already heard the gospel, there is still a need for the gospel to be re-preached where its impact has been weak. However, the priority should be those who have never heard it at all.

·Among the five mission principles of Fellowship Church (unreached people group missions, educational missions, business missions, professional missions, and diaspora refugee missions), the first priority is reaching the unreached people groups. We are praying for churches to be established in the Muslim, Hindu, and Buddhist unreached areas. *Churches are being established in the Duano tribe (Indonesia) and tea plantations (India).

 

2) The gospel can be delivered by using the blessings we receive from God.

·Paul, on his way to Spain, asked the Roman believers to assist him in this mission (Romans 15:24). In the English translation, it says, "I hope to have you assist me on my journey there." This refers to asking for material and financial support for his journey to Spain. 

·Some of us may be called to leave everything and go to the mission field. However, most believers can participate in missions by living a missional life here on earth.

·This means that, rather than going to the mission field ourselves, we can pray for the souls in the mission field and provide financial support to help missionaries carry out their work.

·Looking at the history of Christianity, God has economically blessed countries that He used as spreaders of the gospel in their time. Britain in the 17th and 18th centuries and America today are examples. Over the past century, God has blessed America because of its dedication to world missions. * America covers 80% of global missions and relief funds.

·If we are experiencing difficulties today, it could be because we have forgotten God’s purpose and focused too much on worldly matters. God blesses churches and individuals who are committed to missions. If God is truly alive, He will certainly do so.

 

3) The reason we must give of our own possessions for the gospel is because we owe a debt of love.

·The Macedonian and Achaian churches sent offerings to help the Jerusalem church because they felt they owed a spiritual debt to the Jerusalem church (Romans 15:27).

·We must remember that Korea has become spiritually and economically prosperous today because of the sacrifice and dedication of missionaries who came here over 100 years ago. 

*The death of missionary Thomas led to the Treaty of Amity and Commerce between Korea and the U.S.(1882)

·Many schools and hospitals that helped Korea in its modernization process were established by Western missionaries. Out of the 33 leaders who fought for Korea's independence, 16 were Christians, and 154 pastors were imprisoned because of the March 1st Movement. Places like the Jeam-ri church witnessed the entire congregation being martyred in a fire.  *The graves of young children buried in the Yanghwajin Missionary Cemetery.

·Now, we must share the love we have received with others who need it. And we should serve not with the crumbs, but with the best we have. God sacrificed His most precious Son, Jesus Christ, for us.  *The reason for the youngest child of philanthropists Sean and Jeong Hye-young holding a neighbor's hand during the first birthday celebration.

1) What was the reason Paul wanted to go to Spain, and what principles should we establish in missions based on this? (Romans 15:20, 23)

2) Not everyone goes out as a missionary, but what are the ways we can participate in missions, and why should we do so? (Romans 15:24, 27)
