아멘할 때 하나님이 영광받으십니다 (롬13:1-3)

 

·2015년 6월 26일은 미국이 영적 타락의 길을 걷게 되는 출발점이 되는 날이다. 미연방 대법원이 5:4로 동성간의 결혼을 공식적으로 합법화 한 날이다. 그러나 이런 결정은 우리가 믿고 따르는 성경에 근거해서 볼 때 인정할 수 없는 결정이다. 

·그리스도인들은 이런 결정에 대해 어떤 태도를 취해야 할 것인지에 대한 답은 보다 근본적으로 그리스도인이 마땅히 살아야 할 세번 째의 삶인 순종의 삶에 대해 말해준다. 

 

1) 그리스도의 은혜를 입은 성도들의 마땅한 삶의 세 번째는 순종하는 삶이다.

·당시 로마 교회 내에 상당수를 차지하고 있던 유대인들은 이스라엘이 로마의 속국에서 벗어나 정치적인 독립을 하는 것을 원했다. 열심당파(Zealots) 사람들은 가이사에게 세금을 내는 것도 율법에 어긋나는 일이라고 주장하며 무력을 사용해서라도 로마 제국으로 부터 유대 나라를 독립시키는 것이 하나님의 나라를 확장하는 것이라 했다.        *클라우디우스(Claudios) 황제 때 유대인들의 반란

·이런 상황에서 바울은 어떤 정부의 권위 아래에 있는 성도들도 교회의 질서 못지 않게 국가의 질서를 지키며 살아야 할 것을 강조한다. 본질적으로 세상의 모든 통치 구조와 질서는 하나님의 섭리를 따라 진행되고 있기 때문이다.(딛3:1; 벧전2:13,14; 단2:21)

 

2) 그리스도인들도 국가의 권위에 순종해야 하는 이유는 국가의 권위도 하나님으로 부터 세워진 것이다. 

·그리스도인들이 국가의 권위에 순종해야 하는 이유는 만약 순종하지 않으면 그것은 곧 하나님께 불순종하는 것이 되며, 이것은 결국 하나님으로부터 진노하심을 받게 될 것이기 때문이다.(2절)

·다만 바울은 성도들이 국가의 권위에 순종은 하되 그것은 신앙의 양심을 따라 하는 것이어야 한다는 조건을 달고 있다.(5절) 따라서 어떤 권세에도 무조건으로 순종해야 하는 것이 아니라 하나님이 세우신 권세에 순종하는 것이고, 하나님의 말씀에 합당한 명령에 순종해야 한다.(엡6:1)

·칼빈은 하나님의 절대적 주권을 인정하되 그리스도인들의 사회 참여를 인정했다. 다만 그것이 극단적이고 폭력적인 방식이 아니어야 하며, 이 모든 것들을 결국에는 하나님이 하신다는 믿음을 가져야 함을 말한다.  

 

3) 하나님이 세우신 권세에 순종하는 것은 하나님이 행하신 모든 상황에서도 적용될 수 있다. 

·그리스도인의 삶의 목적은 하나님께 영광 돌리는 삶이다. 그런데 하나님께 영광 돌리는 방법은 무슨 거창한 일을 해야 되는 것이 아니라, 하나님의 약속이 어떠한 상황 속에서도 이루어짐을 굳게 믿고 아멘 하고 있으면 하나님께서 영광 받으실 일들이 나타난다.(고후1:20)

·먼저는 내가 처한 상황에 아멘하는 것이다. 우리는 하나님께 영광 될려면 반드시 어떤 좋은 결과가 나타나야 된다고 생각한다. 그러나 좋지 않은 결과에 대해서도 감사함으로 받아내는 것이 하나님께 영광이 되는 일이다. 

·좋은 일들 뿐 아니라 어떤 사단의 역사도 하나님의 허락하심 없이는 일어날 수 없기 때문이다. (삼상18:10,11) 하나님은 자신의 백성들이 사단의 역사로 고통 당하는 것을 원치 않으신다. 그리고 그런 사단의 역사를 막으실 의지도 있고 능력도 있으시다. 그럼에도 그것을 허용하시는 데는 분명한 뜻이 있으신 것이다. 

·하나님 앞에 범죄함은 없다 하더라도 하나님이 쓰시기에 합당한 그릇으로 만들기 위해서 우리의 불필요한 부분을 잘라 내시는 때가 있다. 하나님은 이런 목적으로 때로는 우리가 예기하지 못했던 상황에 처하게 하기도 한다. (벧전4:12)              

·사람에 대해서도 마찬가지이다. 가족들간의 관계, 직장에서 직원들끼리의 관계, 심지어 교회 공동체에서 지체들 간의 관계에서 사람들은 힘들어 한다. 그러나 이런 관계 속에서 가장 중요한 것은 먼저 그 관계 자체를 인정하고 받아들이는 것이다. 하나님께서 그 관계를 정해주신 것으로 알고, 그 관계 자체를 파괴하려 하거나 피하려고만 하는 것이 아니라 극복하려는 자세가 필요하다는 말이다. 

·우리는 대개의 경우 인간 관계에 있어서 상대방을 탓하는 경우가 많다. 그러나 문제의 원인은 항상 나에게도 있음을 알아 내가 먼저 철저히 죽어질 때 비로서 우리는 하나님의 일하심을 보게 된다. 그리고 그렇게 내가 죽어질 때 내가 하나님의 뜻을 이루어낼 정도로 더 성숙해질 뿐 아니라, 나의 성숙한 삶을 통해 연약한 자들이 변화되어지고 하나님의 일군으로 세워진다. 

·가장 믿음 좋은 사람은 열심히 봉사하는 사람이 아니라, 일 잘하는 사람이 아니라, 주께서 인도하시는 대로 아멘하는 사람이다. 그것도 ‘아멘! 아멘!’ 하는 것이 아니라, ‘아멘~~~!’ 하는 사람이다.

Amen, and God is Glorified (Romans 13:1-3)

·June 26, 2015, marks the starting point of spiritual decline in the United States. On this day, the U.S. Supreme Court officially legalized same-sex marriage by a 5-4 decision. However, from the perspective of the Bible, which we believe and follow, this decision cannot be accepted.

·The answer to how Christians should respond to such a decision points to the life of obedience, which is the third life that Christians should live.

 

1) The third aspect of the life of saints who have received the grace of Christ is the life of obedience.

·At that time, many Jews in the Roman church desired Israel to break free from Roman rule and gain political independence. The Zealots argued that paying taxes to Caesar was against the law, and they advocated for using force to make Israel independent from the Roman Empire, claiming it would extend God’s kingdom.  *Rebellion of the Jews under Emperor Claudius

·In this context, Paul emphasizes that Christians, regardless of the government under which they live, should maintain order in the state as much as they do in the church. This is because all governing structures in the world are progressing according to God’s providence. (Titus 3:1; 1 Peter 2:13-14; Daniel 2:21)

 

2) Christians must obey the authority of the state because the authority is established by God.

·Christians are called to obey the authority of the state because failing to do so is disobedience to God, which will result in His wrath. (Romans 13:2)  *Miriam’s leprosy (Numbers 12)

·However, Paul places a condition on obedience: Christians should obey the state in accordance with their conscience of faith. (Romans 13:5) ·Therefore, obedience is not blind submission but submission to God-established authority and commands that align with His Word. (Ephesians 6:1) *Pastors who refused Shinto shrine worship during Japan’s occupation

·Calvin acknowledged God’s absolute sovereignty but also recognized the participation of Christians in society. However, he emphasized that it should not be done in an extreme or violent manner, and Christians should ultimately trust that God is in control of everything.

 

3) Obedience to God-established authority can apply to all situations that God orchestrates.

·The purpose of a Christian’s life is to glorify God. However, glorifying God doesn’t require grand acts; rather, when we firmly believe that God’s promises will be fulfilled in all situations, saying “Amen” brings glory to God. (2 Corinthians 1:20)

·The first step is to say "Amen" to the situation we are in. We often think that in order to glorify God, something good must result. However, receiving even negative outcomes with gratitude is what brings glory to God.

·Not only good things, but even the works of Satan can’t happen without God’s permission. (1 Samuel 18:10-11) God does not wish for His people to suffer under the influence of Satan. He has the will and power to stop such works. Still, He allows them for a purpose.

·Even though there is no sin in front of God, sometimes He may cut away unnecessary parts of us to make us fit for His use. Sometimes, God allows us to face unexpected situations for this purpose. (1 Peter 4:12)

·The same principle applies to our relationships with others. Whether in families, workplaces, or church communities, people often struggle. ·However, the most important thing is to acknowledge and accept the relationships as they are. Knowing that God has ordained these relationships, we should not try to destroy or avoid them but strive to overcome them.

·We often blame others in human relationships, but we must realize that the root of the problem often lies within ourselves. When we thoroughly die to ourselves, we will see God’s work unfold. And through this process, as we mature, the weak can be transformed and built up as God’s servants.

·The most faithful person is not the one who serves diligently or does things well, but the one who says “Amen” as the Lord leads. Not just a casual “Amen,” but a heartfelt “Amen~~~!”
