믿음으로 끝까지 순종할 때 하나님의 영광이 나타납니다

롬4:2,3,17-20

 

·하나님을 떠나 죄악된 삶을 살 수 밖에 없는 인간들은 결국 그 죄로 말미암는 고통과 파멸의 삶을 살 수 밖에 없다. 안타까운 것은 이런 형편에서 벗어날 힘이 인간 스스로에게는 전혀 없다는 것이었다.  

·이런 형편에 있는 인간들에게 하나님께서는 오직 한 가지 구원의 길을 예비해주셨다. 그것은 인간 스스로의 선한 행위를 통한 방법이 아니라 예수 그리스도를 믿는 믿음으로 말미암아 얻게 되는 구원의 길이었다. 

 

1) 하나님 앞에 의로운 자로 인정받을 수 있는 것은 오직 믿음으로 말미암는다.  

·사도 바울은 아브라함이 스스로는 의롭지 않았을 지라도 믿음 때문에 의로운 자로 인정받은 사실을 두 가지로 설명한다. 

·먼저는 그가 할례 받은 일과 그가 의롭게 되는 일은 서로 무관하다는 것을 설명한다.(10절)

·당시에 유대인들은 할례받는 일을 통하여 하나님 나라의 백성이 된다고 주장했다. 그러나 아브라함은 할례를 받지 않았음에도 불구하고 이미 하나님 앞에 의로운 자라는 인정을 받았다.(창15:6)

·바울은 이어서 또한 이 일이 율법과도 무관하다는 것을 설명한다.(13절) 율법이 제정된 것은 아브라함과 하나님이 언약을 맺은 지 430년 후에 나타난 일이다. 그럼으로 애초에 율법과 아브라함의 칭의와는 무관한 것이었다. 

·율법은 우리로 하여금 죄를 깨닫게 할 뿐이고, 결국 하나님의 진노에 이르게 할 뿐이었다.(15절) 그럼으로 하나님의 상속자가 되어 하나님의 통치와 보호하심이 있는 영원한 나라를 유업으로 받는 일은 철저히 은혜로 되는 일이다. 

 

2-1) 믿음은 하나님이 약속하신 모든 것을 이루실 것을 믿기에 결단하며 순종하는 것이다. 

·하나님으로부터 이삭을 번제로 바치라는 명령을 받았을 때 아브라함은 주저하지 않고 즉각 순종했다.(창22:3) 

·아브라함이 이렇게 순종할 수 있었던 이유는 결국은 하나님을 향한 믿음 때문이었다. 믿음은 바랄 수 있는 것을 바라는 것이 아니라 바랄 수 없는 것을 바라는 것이다.(히11:1)

·우리의 거룩도 마찬가지이다. 나의 의지와 노력으로는 안되지만 그리스도로 말미암아 이루어진다. 보이는 모습은 도무지가 사람 될 것 같지 않아도, 그리스도가 임하심으로 사람될 것을 믿으면 그 믿음대로 역사하신다. 

·어떤 못 되먹은 인간도 십자가의 은혜 앞에 버틸 사람은 없다. 하나님의 역사하실 것을 믿고 우리는 그저 말씀하신 대로 모든 사람과 더불어 화목하기를 힘쓰면 되는 것이다.  내가 먼저 다가가 용서를 구하고, 말씀하신 대로 원수까지 축복해주려 할 때 믿음의 역사가 나타난다.     *251년경 전염병이 창궐할 때 말씀대로 순종한 초기 기독교인들(롬12:14,19,20)

·하나님께서 쓰시기 제일 어려운 사람이 상식과 경험을 내세우는 사람이다. 상식과 경험이 믿음을 가장한 무모한 도전으로 가지 않도록 도와주기도 하지만, 때로 하나님의 역사를 방해하는 수가 있다. 세상은 믿음으로 나가는 사람들로 인해 뒤집히고 물줄기가 바뀌었다. 

 

2-2) 믿음을 가지고 끝까지 순종할 때 하나님의 영광이 나타난다.

·아브라함은 이삭을 번제로 드리기 위해 모리아 산으로 가는 삼일 동안에도 흔들림이 없었다.(창22:3) 또한 칼을 높이 들어 묶여있는 이삭을 내리치려고 까지 했다.(창22:11,12) 눈치 봐가면서 적당히 하는 것이 아니라 끝까지 하는 순종이었다. 

·하나님께 영광 돌린다는 말은 나를 통해 하나님의 부요하심을 드러내는 것이다. 그런데 그 일은 믿음이 약해지지 않고, 끝까지 믿음에 따른 순종을 할 때이다. 아브라함도 끝까지 순종했을 때 여호와 이레의 하나님을 경험했다.    *여호와 이레=하나님이 준비하신다

·여리고 성이 7일째 7바퀴 돌 때 까지도 벽에 금하나 가지 않았지만 마침내 마지막 순간에 무너졌다. 믿음은 결론을 붙드는 것이다. 지금은 될 것 같지 않을 지라도 하나님이 약속 하셨음으로 반드시 이루어질 것을 끝까지 믿는 것이다.

·오늘 우리에게 먼저 필요한 것은 실력이 아니라 믿음이다. 또 하나님이 하실 것을 믿기에 상황에 상관없이 흔들림 없이 나가야 한다. 그럴 때 우리 앞에 하나님의 일하심이 현실 되어 나타날 것이다. 

 

학습 및 적용 문제:

1) 아브라함이 의롭다 함을 얻은 것은 할례나 율법 준수와는 상관이 없다는 것을 어떻게 설명할 수 있는가?(창15:6; 17;10; 창12장)

2) 아브라함이 의롭다 함을 얻었던 믿음이란 결국 어떤 모습으로 나타나야 하는지 두가지를 설명해보라.(17-20절)

3) 나의 현재 상황에서 믿음으로 살지 못하고 있는 부분이 무엇인지 나누어보고 다시 한번 어떤 믿음의 결단을 하게 되었는 지 구체적으로 나누어보라. 

God's Glory is Revealed When We Obey to the End with Faith (Romans 4:2, 3, 17-20)

· Humans, who are inevitably living sinful lives apart from God, ultimately have to endure a life of suffering and destruction due to their sins. The unfortunate reality is that humans have no strength to escape this condition on their own.

· To those in this state, God has prepared only one way of salvation. This is not through human good deeds, but through faith in Jesus Christ.

1)We are recognized as righteous before God solely through faith.

· The Apostle Paul explains that Abraham was acknowledged as righteous not because he was righteous in himself, but because of his faith.

· First, he clarifies that Abraham’s circumcision and his being justified are unrelated (v.10). At that time, the Jews claimed that one became a citizen of God’s kingdom through circumcision. However, Abraham was acknowledged as righteous before God even without being circumcised (Genesis 15:6).

· Paul goes on to explain that this matter is also unrelated to the law (v.13). The law was established 430 years after Abraham made a covenant with God. Therefore, it had no bearing on Abraham’s justification.

· The law only serves to make us aware of sin and ultimately leads to God's wrath (v.15). Thus, becoming an heir of God and receiving the eternal kingdom with His governance and protection is entirely by grace.

2-1) Faith is the decision to obey, believing that God will fulfill all He has promised.

· When Abraham received the command from God to offer Isaac as a burnt offering, he obeyed immediately without hesitation (Genesis 22:3).

· The reason Abraham could obey in this way was ultimately due to his faith in God. Faith is not hoping for what can be hoped for, but hoping for what cannot be hoped for (Hebrews 11:1).

· Our holiness is similar. It cannot be achieved by our will and efforts, but through Christ. Even if we seem completely unworthy, if we believe that we will become who we are meant to be through Christ’s presence, then He will work according to that faith.

· No flawed human can withstand the grace of the cross. Believing that God will work, we simply strive to live in harmony with everyone as He has commanded. When we take the initiative to seek forgiveness and even try to bless our enemies as instructed, the miracle from God is revealed.  *In 251 AD, during a plague outbreak, early Christians obeyed the Word (Romans 12:14, 19, 20).

· The most difficult people for God to use are those who rely on common sense and experience. While these can help prevent reckless challenges masquerading as faith, they can also hinder God’s work. The world has been turned upside down and changed by those who step out in faith.

2-2) When we continue to obey to the end with faith, God's glory is revealed.

· Even during the three days of traveling to Mount Moriah to offer Isaac as a burnt offering, Abraham was unwavering (Genesis 22:3). He even raised the knife to strike down Isaac who was bound (Genesis 22:11-12). This was not a half-hearted attempt, but complete obedience.

· To glorify God means to reveal His richness through us. This happens when our faith does not weaken and we continue to obey. Abraham experienced the God who provides when he obeyed to the end.    *Jehovah Jireh = God will provide.

· The walls of Jericho did not fall until the seventh day after marching around the city seven times, even though they had not budged until the last moment. Faith holds onto the conclusion. Even if it seems impossible now, we believe that what God has promised will surely come to pass.

· What we need most today is not skill, but faith. We must move forward without wavering, regardless of circumstances, because we believe in what God will do. When we do, God’s work will become a reality before us.

1)How can we explain that Abraham's being justified was unrelated to circumcision or the observance of the law? (Genesis 15:6; 17:10; Genesis 12)
