(6) We are Mere Stewards of God’s Authority
Rev. Mark Kosko
(Colossians 3:18-4:18)
I. The Instructions for Christian Households Work Both Ways (3:18-21)
Wives submit, children obey: Yeah! It’s good to be the man!!!
Not so fast Men, there’s so much more to those roles:
Husbands love your wives and fathers do not embitter and discourage your children.
II. Even Under the Harsh Oppression of Slavery there is Hope in Christ (v.22- v.1)
The Lord’s inheritance is the reward for enduring a life of hardship and denial.
God’s justice prevails over wrongdoing committed by men.
All men will submit to a higher authority in Heaven.
III. Devote Yourselves to Prayer (vv.2-6)
Apostle Paul was jailed but rejoiced in the Lord and prayed only for an opened door to spread the Gospel.
He encouraged others to be wise and their conversation full of grace so that they may be able to answer everyone.
He rejoiced in the community of Jewish and Gentile believers. (vv.7-18)
IV. Application Questions:
Do you feel as though you rejoice in the Lord in all circumstances of life good and bad?
Do you pray for God to change your circumstances or for you to have peace with where God has placed you? What is the difference between the two?
Husbands, how would your wives and/or children rate your ability to be loving and not embittering or discouraging to them?
