사랑하는 친구에게

오늘, 우리는 3천여명의 남자, 여자 그리고 어린이들 ... 그중 68명이 매릴랜드사람입니다... 그들은 지난 2001년 9월 11일 희생된 분들입니다.. 그들을 기억하고 추모합니다. 우리는 또한 사고를 당한 국민들을 보호하고 구제하기 위해서 자신을 돌보지않고 생명을 바친 초기 대응자들(역자주: 경찰관, 소방관, 공무원등)의 가족이 보여준 용기와 결의에 대하여 경의를 표합니다.

The story of the resilience of September 11th--the courage, the remembrance, the renewal and what we choose to do with that--is also the story of America. Even amidst tragedy, there was a tremendous amount of beauty revealed that day 10 years ago--it was the beauty that is the dignity of every individual, the beauty of our own responsibility to be able to advance and protect the greater good, and the beauty that comes from understanding that we’re all in this together, that we need each other, and what we do in this lifetime does matter.

9-11에서 회복되는 이야기는 .. 용기와 기억과 아래와 같은 일들을 하기로 우리가 선택했던 것들을 ㄷ다시한번 확인하는 것으로, 바로 미국의 이야기입니다. 비극의 와중에서도, 참으로 대단한 아름다운 이야기들이 10년전 그날 있었습니다. -- 그것은 개개인이 보여주었던 인간존엄성의 아름다움입니다. 우리가 더 큰 선을 보호하고 증진시키기 위한 우리 자신의 책임을 다한 아름다움입니다. 또한 그 아름다움은 우리가 그 안에 다함께 같이 있다는 것을 아는데서 오는 것입니다. 우리는 서로를 필요로 하고, 그리고 우리가 살아가는 동안에 무엇을 하던지 그것이 서로 연관이 있다는 것입니다.

In the days, weeks and months that followed September 11th, 2001, we came together and promised that we would never allow our freedom to be conquered by fear. We promised that we would not allow our love to be conquered by hate. And we told one another that we would never, ever forget. And we won't.

2001년 9-11이 지나고 며칠, 몇주 그리고 몇달이 지나면서, 우리는 하나가 되었고, 또 우리들의 자유를 결코 공포에 사로잡히지 않겠다고 약속을 했습니다. 또한 우리는 미움이 우리의 사랑을 막지 못하게 하겠다고 약속했습니다. 그리고 우리는 서로에게 절대로 잊지말자고 했고, 우리는 잊지 않았습니다.

Today, let us rediscover all that unites us and makes our nation the world's brightest beacon of freedom. Today, let us come together and forever make this occasion one of remembrance, renewal and resilience.

오늘, 우리들의 하나됨을 재발견합시다. 그리고 우리나라를 전세계에서 가장 밝은 자유의 횃볼되게 합시다. 오늘, 우리는 함께 모여서 그리고 영원히 잊지않고, 새롭게하며, 회복을 하는 기회로 만듭시다.
