 I. A Way to Deeper Life from Superficiality
Spiritual Discipline is not the End in itself, but merely a Means to an End
Spiritual Disciplines Open the Door
The Way of Death: Turning the Discipline into Laws

 

 II. A Wake-Up Call
Don’t take it for granted
Take the warning seriously
Could you not tarry one hour?

 

 III. Teach us to Pray (Disciples’ Prayer)
You must learn.
You will get better, but it takes time and a lot of practice, so you have to be patient.
You have to be humble and teachable.
It always happens in community.

 

 IV. Application
Superficiality is the curse of this age. We don’t want to take the time to develop a deeper life in Christ. We often want everything right away, instantly. Discuss how this influences our spiritual development.
