Bible Psalm 1

“True Happiness”
Psalm 1

 I. What is true happiness?
Are you happy with your life?  The whole story of human life is a quest for happiness and fulfillment.  However, this world only can offer disappointment and failure to us.
Psalm 1 points out two sharply contrasting lives.  The first is of a happy and blessed man.   The second is of a man whose life ends in total failure.
True happiness only comes from your relationship with God.

II. True happiness is not found in: (v.1)
the person who walks in the counsel of the wicked
the person who stands in the way of sinners
the person who sits in the seat of mockers

III. True happiness can only be found in: (vv. 2-3)
the person who has a right relationship with God.
the person who delights in the word of God.
He/she is like a tree planted by streams of water (full life)
He/she is fruitful and prospers.

IV. True happiness is everlasting: (vv. 4-6)
True happiness is not only for this life; it goes on even into the next world.  It’s a happiness that can last forever for godly people.
On the other hand, there are the ungodly people who will be without hope at the last day.

 V. Application:
God wants to bless us.  But the way he wants to bless us is different from how the world wants to bless us.  How is it different?
True blessing comes when you live for God in obedience.   Are you living an obedient life?    If not, in what are the areas of your life are you struggling to obey?
In v. 3, the psalmist says “Whatever he does prospers.”  What does it really mean?  Does it mean he is always going to be successful in whatever he wants to do?
