지난 가요제 때..
그 많은 얼굴들 중에..
어른들의 시선 (condemning  stares)이 불편해
교회를 오래전에 떠난 친구들의 웃는 얼굴들이 가장 제 기억 속에 깊이 남습니다 …
얼마만에 보는것인가?
교회 안에서 저렇게 마음놓고 편하게..저렇게 환하게 웃는 그들...
그들의 얼굴을 교회에서 다시 볼 수 있게 되서 얼마나 기뻤는지 모릅니다.

그런데 그런 그들이 이런 교회 사이트의 글들을 본다고 생각하면..
‘어유~그럼 그렇지’라고 하며…

Despite their hurts and vows never to set foot in church again…
their first, few tentative but brave steps back towards the church…
only to have you push them back down again.


저도 만약 모태 신앙이 아니었다면 저 스스로 교회를 찾는 일은 절대로 없었을 것입니다.
아니 가능한 한 아주 멀리 교회로부터 도망쳤을지도 모릅니다.
(Rather I’d do all that I could to stay as far away from church as I possibly could)

So many of my friends have fallen away from the church. Why? Because they are met with hard, cold stares at the
doors of the church, judgmental, condemning looks that speak so much louder than any words could ever.
‘YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE’.
Because they are tired of doors slamming in their faces…
They’ve had enough doors slammed shut in their faces throughout their lives, without the church doors in addition to them. Tired of being rejected, tired of hoping to finally be loved and accepted in the present condition they are in,
only to be driven away from the last shred of hope. Those last set of doors…

No wonder our generation is messed up.
Can the church blame them?
YOU who have slammed the doors shut in their faces?
YOU who have stared them down?
YOU who have looked down on them for the “kind of life they lead”?
YOU who are to blame?

I’m sure everyone’s heard this sermon before: ‘the church is the body of Christ; therefore with Christ as the head of the church, the church should, in all ways, strive to be like Christ’.
Well, Christ dined with, and spent the majority of His time with sinners…the worst of them.

저는 제가 믿는 부모 밑에 태어난 것이 큰 축복이라는  것을 잘 압니다.
하지만 제 친구들 중에는 그렇치 못한 친구들이 많습니다.
한번 쯤은 그들이 물어보지 않을까요?
왜 하고 많은 장소 중에 하필이면 교회에서 가요제를 갖는 것일까?
물론 대부분이 그런 생각 한번도 안해보고 그냥 집으로 돌아갈 수도 있지만
(the thought may never cross their mind – just enjoy a good show and go home…)
하지만 10명 중에 1명만이라도, 100명 중에 1명, 1000명 중에 단 한명이라도
이것을 통해 예수님을 알게 될 수 있다면?

그게 아니더라도
그 친구들이 사랑받고 있다는..인정 받고 있다는..그 뭐가 뭔지 왠지 모르는 기분 좋은..
따듯한 마음으로 집으로 돌아 갈 수 있다면..

그리고..
하나님이 슬퍼하신다고요?
<청소년가요제 말도 안됩니다>라는 글을 보시고 더 슬퍼하시지는 않으셨을까요?

교회를 더럽히고 문란한 곳으로 만든건..
아이들이 아니라..
하나님이 정말 싫어하시는 것이 담배와 술..꼭 이런 것만이 아닌..

judging others based on outward appearances,  criticizing, discouraging , discriminating and condemning others, and completely lacking the characteristic love, mercy and compassion of Christ…

바로 이런 것들이 아닌지..

Before the church was ever “dirtied” by the 가요제, I think it was already rotting…from the inside.
And we have no one to blame but ourselves.
